Responding to a name shows that memory is functioning... as seen from

here, it doesn't necessarily indicate anything more than that. It

doesn't require the sense of an " I " or a " me " when a response

In fact, a sense of " I " or " me " might actually interfere. Picture

this: " Wrapped up in my thoughts, " walking down the street. Someone

calls out the name " Tim " -- but " lost in my thoughts, " nobody

responds.
