Dear Cathy,

The one 'benefit' I see to sharpening intellect is in improving

concentration. Not being an 'end goal' in itself, but in a variety

of meditative (and other) techniques, concentration is used to induce

a condition of 'one-pointedness' -- that is, thought being sharp and

focused rather than loosely scattered all over the place with

conflicting wants, needs, desires, all that.

That kind of 'one pointedness' (most often pointed out in Buddhism)

can be 'helpful' in various ways. I won't get into it, because it

may not involve the 'paths' of very many here, but just to say that a

heightened ability to spontaneously and easily 'sharply focus'

attention can be very beneficial on some 'paths'.

Namaste,

Tim
