Guest guest
I've been noticing something peculiar for a while. When I observe the mind - thoughts, feelings, imaginings, desires, etc. - it seems to reside in a sort of box (actually more like a picture frame) down and to the right of me. I say picture frame because it has definite limits or borders and it's there in front of me. It can be looked at, or dipped into, and has a bitter sweet flavor. Conversely, when I turn awareness towards itself (Self), it seems to reside behind and above me (where it can't be seen), say 3-6 feet behind my left shoulder. It can't be looked at, and has no flavor. Thirdly, when I remember an event or situation (say, attending a basketball game), I've noticed that I don't remember it from my personal point of view. In other words, actions and events aren't seen through my eyes or heard through my ears. It's more like a hovering presence records everything from all points of view simultaneously; like the camera in a movie, which is omniscient and not representative of any particular character's viewpoint. It could be that memory is a gestalt of all the impressions garnered by the various senses; yet this doesn't quite seem to explain it.
