Imagined relationship with others

" Painful concern over why others behave as they do is one of the

subtle ways in which we hide from ourselves a certain form of

suffering born out of being unconsciously identified with them, so

that our pain is rarely the fact that these people are not as self-

ruling as we imagine they ought to be -- but that their ungainly

behavior is rocking our fragile sense of self that is rooted in our

imagined relationship with them. "
