Guest guest
Hi Tim -- Makes sense ... And dimly yet clearly I see something beyond disinterest and nonattachment (which each imply something actually there which one loses interest in or attachment to) ... This " something beyond " , which neither has anything to be interested in or disinterested in, is right where any memory is strictly an arising as " now " ... The impression that memory image refers to something, that it reveals anything other than " now " , is purely illusion ... I may be saying almost the same thing you said, just want to note that there is a kind of effortless loss of illusion as the Real (i.e., the " now " of " singularity " ) alone is Real -- <laughing> As if communicating this Real could be real, or could ever *not* be real ... There is nothing pointing away from " now " , thus, nothing that can point to " now " -- The illusion of memory seems to be " as if real " when there is the groundless impression of " retention " -- depending entirely on an assumed entity who could be " holding " and " bringing with " ... So, the illusion isn't so much " the past " or " memory " in and of itself, but the sense of " retention " ... What are the seven deadly sins, or the Buddhist " mind-poisons " related to " self " other than different ways there are attempts to " retain " -- as if there could be an entity that retains and brings with? Turns out " now " is all there is, isn't at all the idea named " now " , has no real divisions into past, present and future, and is playing a kind of game, which we've referred to as a movie, and has also been called a dream. Waking up is only a dream event in which the dream sense of " retention " drops away... What is beyond dream events obviously can't meaningfully be addressed by dream characters trading concepts on the internet, using " retained meanings " to make sense of words ... Yet, it's fun to be talking like this ;-) Namaste, Dan Hi Dan, It's all nostalgia... what's the difference between " 20 years ago " and " five minutes ago? " That's why many of the sages (and 'myself') put an emphasis on such things as " unattachment, " " desirelessness " and " aloofness " or " disinterest. " The less interesting " the world " (which consists entirely of past remembrances), the more the 'essential Now' (devoid of past, present and future) tends to " reveal itself " in the absence of distractions.
