Well this one should wake up the list..

This guy returns home one evening to find his wife

stark naked in front a mirror, admiring her body.

" So what's this about ? " enquired the guy.

" I went for my medical examination today

and the young handsome doctor insisted

that my body was simply superb -like an 18 year old "

she replied.

" And did he mention your fat ass ? " he remarked.

" Noop, he never inquired about you " uttered his wife.

Dear Tim,

May I please introduce myself as a new member to this group.

You are right about the 'noble silence'. Perhaps the new year must still bring its crisis for people to start waking up to their sorrows which may kickstart again their enquiry into the deeper aspects of being.

I cannot really say much about the teachings of Nisargadatta. I have read his book 'I am That' and found in him a dedicated and profound man of understanding, depth and sincerity.

I know many of the latterday Advaitists have come to the conclusion that because everything is already whole and non-dual, nothing can be done by the separate self-sense to bring clarity and wholeness to our being. Ultimately, of course this is true. But I sense that Nisargadatta has found a way round this kind of 'Zen-sickness' by pointing to the removal of that which obscures reality or non-dualism.

I think he says very clearly that the mind cannot find the Truth, but that it can indeed be used to facilitate in the removal of that which obscures Truth. To me this is the essence of the Gnani way of enquiry. Nothing is left untouched in this enquiry. Nothing is assumed around which clever arguments can be constructed to eliminate the necessary path of the burning away of the false (obscurations). To my understanding this is a rather arduous undertaking.

Where would the Gnanis on this list begin with this process of elimination?

Love,

moller.

" Moralistic " jokes don't strike here as particularly funny -- of

course, tastes in humor vary.

Cheers,

Tim

Not accepting a label of " Gnani " here (blecch), but a suggestion on

where to begin would be " right here, right now, this minute, don't

wait, don't delay, don't put off, don't procrastinate. "

There are a lot of examples of " Sunday Christian Advaitists " on these

lists -- " 10 minutes of meditation/contemplation per day " sort of

thing. Just the right prescription to be seeking & suffering more

than ever at the age of 75.

Love back atcha,

Tim
