Guest guest
Open question: Maharaj talks about the traps of the search, gurus, mantra repetition, sadhanas, the whole notion of trying to achieve awakening through practices, etc. He himself practiced obeisance to his guru every day: formal practices, singing of bhajans, arati, etc. When asked why he (why THAT) continued to do these practices, Maharaj replied, "It's a mystery." Any comments on this "mystery" would be much appreciated. Thanks, Colin

Guest guest
Who chooses?Who can question what is?It is as is.None of it is separate. There is no separate Majaraj making choices about how to do things.Namaste,Dan These are simply the habbit patterns. El Thank you both. Is choice then an illusion? And if it is, then free will is one as well. Everything is just happening. But this happening includes "me" exercising choice and free will. My brain hurts. :-) And speaking of "habbit patterns", I'd gladly trade mine in for the 'learning' that Basho describes in this passage a friend just emailed me. best, Colin "Learn about the pine from the pine, learn about the bamboo from thebamboo" - this dictum of our teacher [basho] means that you must forgoyour subjectivity. If you interpret "learn" in your own way, you willend up not learning. To "learn" here means to enter the object; then ifits essence reveals itself and moves you, you may come up with a verse,a page, a painting. Even if you seem to have described the object, unless it has an emotion that comes out of it naturally, the object andyour self will remain separated, and the emotion you have described willnot have attained sincerity, because it will be something made up byyour subjectivity.' - Hattori Toho (translation by Hiroaki Sato, cited in JaneHirshfield)
Guest guest
Perhaps he is not trying to gain enlightenment,, he sings bhajans for the simple reason... because .... wait for it.. because this is really profound.. he ... enjoys it... enjoyment, happiness bliss...
