Guest guest
Gentlemen! I have an important question: Nisarga always stresses the importance of "I am" How does one actually do this. Is it kind of a meditation? Do I have to sit down in a Zen-like manner? (Za-Zen) Do I have to repeat the words 'I am' constantly like a mantra? Or is it a feeling? Should I THINK about 'I am' or FEEL 'I am'. (Maybe I must focus on "FEELING BEING") ??? Anybody can help here? thanks and regards from switzerland fox www.feel.ch
Guest guest
hi fox, though there is nothing wrong with repeating the words " i am " , the sense of " i am " is without words and it refers to consciousness, awareness of existence, beingness, the formless mirror that contains all forms, silence...N didn't mean it as a mantra or a breathing exercise. the sense of " i am " is another way of saying 'you are consciousness and as consciousness mediate on consciousness, nothing else.' this instruction is not really that much different from ramana's much misunderstood self-inquiry method of sitting in silence and investigating (without words) where this 'i-thought' rises from. maharaj's often repeated quotes one more time: " When I met my Guru, he told me: " You are not what you take yourself to be. Find out what you are. Watch the sense 'I am', find your real Self. " I obeyed him, because I trusted him. I did as he told me. All my spare time I would spend looking at myself in silence... My Guru ordered me to attend to the sense 'I am' and to give attention to nothing else. I just obeyed. I did not follow any particular course of breathing, or meditation, or study of scriptures. Whatever happened, I would turn away my attention from it and remain with the sense 'I am', it may look too simple, even crude. My only reason for doing it was that my Guru told me so... Refuse all thoughts except one: the thought of `I Am'. The mind will rebel at first in the beginning, but with patience and perseverance it will yield and keep quiet. Once you are quiet, things will begin to happen spontaneously and quite naturally, without any interference on your part.
