Guest guest
how to do nondual worship at your local church/temple: 1. during the mass, repeat three times, " how great is Self's glory. " 2. ask the priest pass the wine glass and sing, " i am the wine drinker and the wine and the cupbearer. " 3. if a devotional seeker asks you if you think you're god, say, " i was the maker of my own Self. " when the stunned seeker comments to the others that this delusional fellow imagines he's above the laws of god, look at the heavens and pray, " Your obedience to me is greater than my obedience to You. " 4. sit at the cardinal's chair and say, " i am the throne and the footstool. " 5. tell the cardinal that, " i saw the vatican and the pope prostrating to me. " 6. if the cardinal asks you if this consciousness that you speak of is greater than the tablets of ten commandmends, say " i am the well- preserved tablet. " 7. finally chant the following: " i came forth from i-am-ness as a snake from its skin. then i looked and saw that seeker and god are one. " ps. the above quotes (not the crazy church story) are from an influential sufi called beyazid bestami (also spelled as bayazid bastami) who lived in the 9th century. bestami wrote nothing but many of his sayings have been preserved. an interesting historical footnote: bestami's teacher was abu ali al-sindi who spoke no arabic and was most probably a nondual hindu sage. the name " sindi " was given to people beyond the indus river. in bestami islamic and indian mysticism blends into an unusual combination.
