Guest guest
Enlightenment exists solely because of delusion and ignorance, if they disappear so will enlightenment. the opposite is true also; delusion and ignorance exist because of enlightenment; when enlightenment ceases, ignorance and delusion will cease also. Guest guest
X is because of Y, Y is because of X. We can substitute what we want into the causal relation formula. I need help, I don't see Dwight saying anything here. Speaking for myself and not Dwight: When knowing that x and y arise mutually, one knows the truth of nonseparation, nondivision. One now is not moving from one moment to another moment, accumulating experiences. There is no individual separated, there is nothing that has its own inherent existence or being apart from everything else. Something beyond what can be said, because any word involves an oppositon: the word and what is not the word, like Dan and not-Dan, or apple and not-apple. The clarity that cannot be given in words, beyond the formula of what can be stated, including the formula x = -x. X=X Y=Y X=-X Y=-Y X=Y Know all of those equations, and beyond: Equanimity that is not understandable. Peace, Dan
Guest guest
Actually the passage is attributed to Buddha (pen name for a line of buddhists). > When knowing that x and y arise mutually, > one knows the truth of nonseparation, > nondivision. Perfect. Couldn't have said it as well myself. In Dan's terms, Enlightenment and Delusion are mutually arising. " All Dharmas are empty " , even Enlightenment. It is as in a story Buddha tells of the man who crosses a river with a raft. Once he has reached the other side the raft can be cast aside, indeed must be cast aside. The notion of Enlightenment can be compared to the raft. That is the paradox of Buddhism. Were are told to overcome ignorance and delusion and to attain enlightenment, only to be told in the end that ignorance, delusion, and enlightenment all never existed! All Dharmas are empty. Yeah. -Bill dan330033 [dan330033] Tuesday, November 19, 2002 11:43 AM Nisargadatta Re: Enlightenment exists solely because of delusion Nisargadatta, " trem23 " <inmadison@h...> wrote: > X is because of Y, Y is because of X. Guest guest
When I arises so too do others. When the myriad concepts arise so too does the I concept. X is because of Y, Y is because of X. This is why as Miyamoto Musashi says, if you know one thing, you know ten thousand. I know the wording isnt perfect, but what do you expect for two cents? m. > " trem23 " <inmadison >Nisargadatta >Nisargadatta > Re: Enlightenment exists solely because of delusion >Tue, 19 Nov 2002 18:13:11 -0000 > >X is because of Y, Y is because of X.
