Guest guest
dear mira, you asked how a person know that they're enlightened. i gave a humorous response but it is partly true as well. since you're asking for a more serious response, let's talk about the question first. doesn't your question assume that one has to claim one is enlightened already in order to answer this question? on these lists this is a risky claim to make since there'll always be someone who'll say, " no you are not! but i am. you're doing it all wrong and this is how you do it... " i feel that enlightenment is a rare event...though on these lists you'll meet many who truly have deep understanding. are they enlightened? i have no idea and i never question anyone's enlightenment...besides how could i possibly know? personally i don't feel enlightened and i'm not bothered by that either but what bugs me is people who need validation to the extent that they turn into advaita bullies. i have a couple enlightened friends but they don't claim to be enlightened. then why have they appeared enlightened...to me? because it is always peaceful to be in their presence. of course the enlightened people come in all shapes, sizes and personality types, not just the peaceful types. some of them can be fiery and can yell at you if you insist on not getting it...and that's exactly what some people may need. hur Nisargadatta , " Athanor " <athanor@c...> wrote: > how does on eperson know that he/she is enlightened? > mira > when your ex wife barges in to your satsang > and calls you a fraud in front of your friends > but you still see her as That. > > fat chance for that....hehehe > hur > ------------- i meant it! > mira
Guest guest
I have been the attempt to know something. Because I am trying to know, to feel, because I claim something happened to me, I must exist. Whether I am attempting to be enlightened, or know someone enlightened, or express enlightenment, it's still the attempt. When I die to the attempt, the I that is claimed by the attempt, also dies. With the release of the attempt, I dissolves, there is nothing to know about anything, nothing to know about enlightenment, nothing to know about who is or isn't ... Guest guest
You were the attempt just now, you'll be the attempt again soon. Attempts come and go, and in between there is the unnameable. Activity creates the self, identity and memory give it continuity. I know you don't hold to your attempts. " Look Ma, no hands! " Ma is very proud of you, Danny! Guest guest
I think you can tell when a person is enlightened or higher consciousness when they display no egoic hold to any subject. I believe that enlightenment is possible for anyone, and until now it has been a rare event; however, I believe that it will be more prevalent with the shifting planetary consciousness. copperbasil
