Guest guest
>Interesting Pete.>Tell me, do you think there is such a thing as change? Does anything in this world even change? If we take away memory, how can change exist? Change, by it's very nature, must take into account what is not now. Change can not exist in the present moment alone. It must include what is not with what is. Change is reality blurred into a comparison with what is not real. Take out what is not real and you >take out change.>Your thoughts?>TobyHi Toby, Yes, your thoughts are very interesting too. And posing memory as the cause of change is quite intriguing. Do I think change exists? Certainly. Let's suppose you were born in a house that had a large rock inside the living-room. You are used to it, and you work around it. But one day you married and your wife hates the rock and she wants it out of the house. "Ok, I'll change its name to dresser and move it to the bedroom. " you say. Does that get rid of the rock? So, we call 'change' memory, and we move it from the present to the past, how is that going to alter the fact that yesterday I was healthy and today I'm in pain? Because language is such a powerful tool we have a feeling that by manipulating words we can transform reality. So, although your idea seems theoretically very sound, in practice we can't function without memory. People who have lost all memory need 24 hrs care. It's only if I deal with the pain by taking a pain killer, or by complete acceptance of it that I'll be able to function with a minimum of discomfort. No juggling of concepts is going to offer relief . And you could be right about change being just a mental phenomenon, but its effects would remain the same. Thanks, I did enjoy thinking about your theory. Pete
