Guest guest
Hi Toby, You bring up an excellent point, even the wisest words from the past acquire their meaning from and at the moment they enter the mind of the reader. To really understand Christ or Buddha a mind must already be similar to theirs. Everyone twist words to suit their purposes, and so we find words of freedom justifying tyranny, and words of love justifying slaughter. The wise person is always skeptical of words, even her/his own. Thanks for the input, Pete >There are apparently groups of specialized archiologists and historians who research and study full time the historical roots behind the bible. Their lifes work is in tracing back to find the most accurate records of exactly what Jesus said. You have outlined the true folly of their work. Even if they were to pin down and find out, without a sceric of doubt, the exact words Jesus used in his >communications, of what value could this possibly be?>The true value lies in, as you so beautifully put it, "To see through >their empty promise to disclose the essence of things."
