We don't know light the same way we know a lightbulb. We can explain what a lightbulb is, but we can't explain what seeing light is like. The qualia of light, like all qualia, ( primary sensations) is not communicable. This is also so with the *knowledge* of the Absolute. Can we even remember light when not seeing light? We seem to believe so, but is it so? So we have been exposed to light, and we recognize it when we see it, but we don't really know it as we know a lightbulb. So there we go, even when *we* realize, *we* don't *know.* > > And yet although, realization can't be taught, it can be caught by contagion. Realized people are contagious to those that have a predisposition for that terminal illness. That is what in Zen it's called transmission of mind with mind. The incubation period might be long, or instant, but once acquired the bacillus is inevitably fatal. hahaha I call it the snake bite: you can't undo it > > So the teacher, if he's truly realized is a contagium. His eyes, his looks, his gestures, his voice transmits directly to our subconscious this mode of being. Even his written words could carry that perfume to one so predisposed. Is the teacher indispensable as so many assert? No. We all carried this latent germ. Any shock to the system could trigger an attack. If we are open we could learn from anyone, and anything. > > Best, > > Pete
Guest guest
Peter: I've been reading this book called " Facets of Unity " the Enneagram of Holy Ideas by A H Almaas. I tell you, things can be communicated by words. In this book, Almaas shows a map of the ego/God and his intent is to show via words what egolessness is like. I think he does a good job! Its interesting because it really is like the key to the jail. If you can see the walls of the jail, it helps a lot in finding the way out.
