doing vs. not doing

I assume you mean when these words are used to express

truth about being, as opposed to their common and

obvious meaning?

 

Doing involves calculated effort to reach a specific goal,

and constructs a doer along with the action, who is

expected to benefit or gain from the action. Doing

can be classified as " selfconscious. "

 

Nondoing involves no calculation, no goal formation,

no attachment to a sense of meaning or linear progression,

no construction of a doer who is expected to

maintain existence to benefit from action. Nondoing

can be classified as " nonselfconscious. "

 

Nondoing as a Taoist idea is closely related to the Buddhist

idea of nonattachment, in my opinion.
