Guest guest
Thinking about "I am" or thinking those words is a mental act which, by definition, tends to keep the mind active. The sense of "I am" is closer to pure being, and ultimately leads to silence beyond the mind.

Guest guest
Is this kind of the same thing as being present in the Now? I can understand it that way, since being in the Now is just Being, without the mental chatter. The problem is not the chatter but rather the wish that it stops. The wish for a quiet mind one could consider as some kind of spiritual neurosis. If some Self-realized people point at the quiet mind they forgot that first they realized the Self and after some time the mind got quiet. But that process is not reversible. Forget the quiet mind - it leads nowhere. Werner
Guest guest
Thanks for clearing that up. I am now more confused on what it means to hold on to the "feeling" of I AM. Is it like being the Witness to everything, including thoughts? Is it just "feeling" that you exist? Dear Josh, I am not an expert to help you quickly and profoundly into the Self (I am joking) and even those Masters and attained ones couldn't do that. The whole spiritual trip has no sure sign posts but is rather experimental. But at least I can tell you that all those " exercises " one has to do " constantly " or " to hold on " are maintained by thought, by the ego. When you observe yourself the observer is the ego, every concentration is done by the ego, even the whole spiritual trip is an ego trip. Will power is the ego. One has to learn anew to be playful. When you say to yourself " I AM " then it means be aware of your existence, of your presence - it is a feeling. You must experiment with it to find out how to do that. And don't try to " hold on " but rather do it every time when your remember it. See it as a playful task which helps you to be more and more aware of your existence and which is an invitation to the Self. Werner
