Guest guest
We had gathered around Eli in the living room of the big house at Esalen. Half way through the talk he asked of there were any questions... A pretty blond lady raised her hand and asked a question about relationships. She proceded to elaboate about the strained relationship she had with her father and started speculating about how that had effected all of her subsequent love affairs. At first, I listened with a stoic indifference... but as the story grew more complex it started to gain my interest. As the rather long personal history concluded, she lowered her gaze and waited for a resolution to her dilemma. We all waited...in silence... Several minutes passed as Eli seemed to deeply ponder her pain. He summed it up with one word. " Bor...ing " ... he said. The air seemed to leave the room as everyone sucked in their breath and waited for her response. Laughter burst from her and ignited the room as we all realized it was just another story. Sweet laughter washed all of our stories clean.

That's his story, being supplanted upon her story, as a comment upon it. And, him being at the head of the room, while you all wait to hear what authoritative response he produces, is all of your shared story. The wish to be beyond stories, is a story, and having a representative of that story about being beyond stories, continues that story. > > The air seemed to leave the room as everyone sucked in their breath and waited for her response. > > Laughter burst from her and ignited the room as we all realized it was just another story. > > Sweet laughter washed all of our stories clean. That laughter affirms your shared story, which involves the belief that you've washed your stories clean. -- Dan

Stories commenting on stories that reflect on comments about stories which exist within stories ... That there never has been anything to wash clean, or to be washed clean of ... is yet another story. Smiles, Dan
