Guest guest
Hi I am new to this site.I have read many books on the TRUTH.I noticed on this site some of these posts can get pretty heavy.I personally like things when they are simple. I consider myself a lifelong student.Although I have picked up some wisdom along the way, there are still many questions. First one that comes to mind is why does there seem to be so few people at any given time on this planet who are enlightened. Many seek...few realize. Second one is how important is eating or not eating meat in regards to spiritual growth? Isn't it more important what comes out of your mouth than what goes into it? Hope to hear from some of my fellow seekers. R.
Guest guest
Hi R, Welcome to the show which never got started. - rafoil38 Nisargadatta Tuesday, September 23, 2003 06:13 AM A Student's Questions HiI am new to this site.I have read many books on the TRUTH.I noticed on this site some of these posts can get pretty heavy. Heave them to the recycle bin. Couple of clicks that's all.<LOL> I personally like things when they are simple. The simple is the heaviest of the heavies. I consider myself a lifelong student.Although I have picked up some wisdom along the way, there are still many questions.First one that comes to mind is why does there seem to be so few people at any given time on this planet who are enlightened. Many seek...few realize. To keep the market value up, you monitor the release of supplies, squeezing the tap when over-supply. Diamonds are pieces of coal, in fact coal has far more utilitarian value. But DeBeers by closely controlling the supply, keep the diamond prices in stratosphere. Second one is how important is eating or not eating meat in regards tospiritual growth?Isn't it more important what comes out of your mouth than what goes into it? LOL Right. Eat whatever your taste buds enjoy. Just see that it comes out smoothly, next day. Constipation whether material constipation or spiritual, is a definite no-no in the path of spiritual growth. Hi R, P:How do you know there are just a few? It seems to me it all depends on how you define enlightenment. You seem to be asking why are there so few great teachers of enlightement? Yes, great teachers are few, great anythings are few. Musicians, scientist, baseball players, you name it. Excellence is rare in any field. I'm sure there are millions of liberated, or self-realized people. must don't call themselves that, or are aware they belong to any spiritual category. It's really not a very spectacular state. People just look cheerful, easy going, unflapable, fearless, helpful, etc. you might just say if asked about the person. She is pretty nice! > Second one is how important is eating or not eating meat in regards to > spiritual growth? Eat whatever you like. What you do with your body is not important. It's the mind that should fast. Best wishes, Pete

They will appear as needed. Who knows at this time? Enlightenment is perchance subjective, but many teachers and sages in repose do seem to have obtained knowledge. The search for truth within will not appeal to many. > Second one is how important is eating or not eating meat in regards to > spiritual growth? > Isn't it more important what comes out of your mouth than what goes > into it? > >>Yes, 'chewing the cud' is of more value than anything entered into the digestive system. Simple is good. The core teachings of many of the great teachers including Nisargadatta and Ramana is simple, i.e. Enlightenment = the cessation of compulsive thinking. and anything that can do that is a good teaching. We are supposed to " use " the mind a tool, not be " used " by the mind. The vast majority of complexity is " mind " not understanding ( for what ever reason ), the simple trouth. >I consider myself a lifelong student.Although I have picked up some >wisdom along the way, there are still many questions. >First one that comes to mind is why does there seem to be so few >people at any given time on this planet who are enlightened. >Many seek...few realize. We are brought up to " Think " . Its hammered into us by society, our peers, teachers etc. To realize enlightenment, one needs to get over thinking in the conventional sense and as such, one cannot realize enlightenment by thinking,......which is what we are trained to do from birth if we have a problem or a goal to atain. Most seekers try to " Figure out " enlightenment rather then just allowing it to immerge. Again, one cant make the final step by thinking.....which probably explains the basic difficulty in what should be the simplest thing to do.... >Second one is how important is eating or not eating meat in regards to >spiritual growth? >Isn't it more important what comes out of your mouth than what goes >into it? If one has not realized enlightenment, and given that the doorway is the cessation of thought, it would follow that foods or food habits that are overly stimulating, or draining, can help keep the general thought stream active, which would be a hindrance. Good luck....... Guest guest
Hi Sandeep You ask how am I doing.I will tell you.I wake up every morning and say a prayer.I tell God I am His servant and ask for His guidance. Most days seem uneventful as far as oppurtunity for service is concerned. However,I know by now that things tend to happen in God's time not mine.Patience is a good quality. I also know progress does not happen in a straight line. The mind can not guage it.Therefore I live each day with total faith. That is how I am doing. Regards R.
