Guest guest
Self is an image, a mirage in a hall of mirrors, endlessly multiplied and distorted by time. Sometimes cute, others beautiful, ugly, threatening, sad, comic, and never the same. Unfortunately, the mind is hypnotized and obsessed with this dangerous mirage. Dangerous because it anchors the mind to suffering. The mind believes that this image of self not only needs to be protected and up kept within, but also in the mind of others. This imaginary link between the self image and those in the minds of the people we know, is a source of suffering. To believe that others could see us as we see ourself, that how others see us, could somehow makes us better or worse causes endless trouble. The Voodoo practice of sticking pins in an effigy of someone works with some people because they really believe this effigy is somehow them. As Eric believes his photos are somehow he. Now I ask you, how can a nondual intelligent guy, believe he is the body after all this years? And that showing a photo of that body will somehow make people know him better or gain their respect? The only thing anyone proves by showing his picture on a web page is that they are still under this delusion they are the body or own a body, and that looks are important. Spiritually speaking, if someone has not learned that looks are unimportant, what have they learned? Since the first day you showed up at Sangha, Skogen, Joyce, and others have been trying to break your infatuation with your ample physique. But is not only the body, is that self image in your head that makes you vulnerable. Look at Dan, The guy has no self image. He is untouchable. No matter how hard I push him, he bounces back with a smile. He is one of the best player of this game. And not get me wrong, you are an effective player too, your emails are no longer me, me. I notice you are addressing issues of great relevance in an effective way. I know some people are going to say it is not a game, but it's a game because it has to do with those make-belief images of self. The fact of the matter is, Pete brings out the best in Dan. Dan is damn good when he gets pissed! Isn't that enough? Why the hell analyze everything to death! Enjoy the moment! It's enough. ..
