I am new to the group and I am finding the question of who I am not

doing anything for me. Can anyone give me a push in the right

direction? I would appreciate it so much if someone could help me on

this.

no push here, just an angle, in times of stress or boredom or

depression or excitement, the huge mass of feelings can be observed

as 'not me'

What exactly are you doing with that question? Thinking about it?

Comtemplating the feeling of being? Repeating it like a mantra?

Non of the above.

And all the possible things you could do with that question Pete

didn't mention won't be the right approach - even Pete can't give you

any proof that he succeeded.

Was he asking for proof Werner? A guy tells you he is lost and what

do you give him? a site to read about people who were lost too and

said they found their way? Were they in the same spot he is? Big

help, eh? :))

Beloved Hakoohaj!

Myself is a Newby here at this group, what is one of the blessed ones. Because

here honest searchers for spiritual truth still allow the freedom to share, to

care for seekers with questions like us.

Fom my experience the more advanced seekers grow up in age, the less questions

they have: except one: Let me in die in peace - without interfering in my mind

with yours!

That is the main purpose of these spiritual seekers gathering in groups like

this and many, many others. Here, the group is a blessed ones, as long the free

flow of caring sharing remains untouched. Otherwise.... it will go down the

drain in the political priests fishing for costumers.

Now, getting older on the path in life, maybe children grow up like yourself,

elder people meet again like youngster in the kindergarden and solve the

ultimate secret beyond: what's about death? How to die?

There came different gurus in the mind of devoted disciples. For example Christ,

always a good example. Christ gave a splendid picture in the art to stay

centered in one of the most tortures death penality: on the cross. OK, sweet

Jesus in sweat, blood and tears, lost contenance for a while and shouted deeply

in despair:

''Father, father in heavens why have you forsaken meeeeeeeeeeeeeee?''

But that cry of despair was only a soft movement in mind. Moment later Jesus

relaxed again, smiled at the crying women down to his feet under the cross to

consolate her pain of see HIM suffering. The almighty son of God Father in

Heavens!

Other disciples root their trust for example in Ramana, a very prominent teacher

for hungry, greedy seekers for the spiritual advancement to die in peace. Ramana

suffered from serious sickness, cancer, tortured totally on a Holy Hill in South

India, Aranchula, where he lived for decades, and his death has been decades

ago, without pills or morphium to release HIS pain in the death process, Ramana

still smiled at his disciples in despair, loosing their guiding light.

Or do you remember Socrates? If Xanthippe (

http://www.n0by.de/2/rst/xanthipp.htm ) could not kill this man, pesting priests

and politicians around him could! Even Socrates got a generous offer:

1. be silent in Athens

2. leave Athens, when you can't stop torture us with your sermons or

3. DIE!

Socrates decided for the third alternative. He swolled the poison, starting to

kill his body from the feet on upwards, till death reached his heart. Socrates

died preaching his disciples.

Now, getting older, people like us look for device: how to die? To die like

these Heros?

Don't you remember young boys reading all the Red Indian adventures? Chasing

each other on the path of war? And when an enemy was captures, he slowly was

tortured into death. And paradise was only open for the heroes, who achieved the

art of dieing without blinking an eye.

Is that the secret, people are asking for via e-mail connection?

You could get a better device from my friends, specialized in those question.

But what answer can be given, when you not even have shown a picture of your

face? What answer can written, when we not have shared a bottle of beer

together? Do you expect a deeper answer than your search deepens in your life?

Do you think this search for the right way to heaven, untouched of anything, is

a Sunday afternoon tea party of chatting bored husbands or wifes?

yours

Nisargadatta addresses the issue of " who i am " very beautifully

there is a passage where he speaks about " standing naked in the

rain.. " or something, the courage of confronting each moment as we

anybody has the quote?

Hi Koohaj,

None of the above (I left the 'e' out before) means: are you doing

something else than what I asked?

Anyway, besides asking who you are, or instead of asking that, since

it seems you are not getting an answer. Although, we don't know how

long you been asking that question, do this.

Do it as a favor to me, not because you are going to get any results.

Sit down comfortably and check if you are feeling any pain anywhere.

The answer probably is going to be no. You are not feeling any pain.

Then feel how feeling no pain feels. Stay with that felling of

feeling no pain for a few moments. Whatever you are feeling at the

time, being pain, no pain, something else, feel that for as long as

you can stay with it. It might be only seconds, or minutes, it

doesn't matter. Do that every time you have nothing else to do, and

you remember.

That feeling of 'what you are feeling at the moment' is what you are

at that moment. Later on something else might be revealed there, but

that is another story.

Best wishes to you,

Pete

Hi Koohaj,

The asking of 'Who Am I' is a tool that can be used to interrupt the

continuous stream of thought and create a gap for a moment in the thinking

process....not a question to be answered.

p.s. you are not the cause of any fighting going on here....it's just a part

of the circus show that arises in this group from time to time. : )

What if the right direction involves the undermining of

all assumptions that something is going to do something

for you, and that you can know when you're going in the

right direction?

You mean none of this has helped up to now?

All these kind grandmothers, and you got

nothing out of it?

Okay -- try asking this: " Where am I as I am

trying to ask, 'Who am I?' -- and getting

nothing from that? "

And: What am I observing that is telling me

that I am not getting anything from it?

And: what is the relationship between the one

that is observing, and the one that is

being observed to be getting nothing

out of it?
