Guest guest
The way he was presented on tv - with his mouth being probed by objects while he had to remain passive and accepting is apparently against the Geneva convention. It is the worst possible light they could present him in - having objects poked into orifices - a sign of submission and humiliation that many other victims of war - usually women - have to tolerate. (from another list) Great, that Saddam has been captured, no doubt about this. But almost instintively I felt that something was profoundly wrong about the picture transmitted all over the world. What is happening? What am I accepting here, without losing a word about it? This man has been a dictator and murderer but until now he isn't convicted. The trail has not even commenced. International rules and conventions are valid for all, even and particularly for those, who win a war. What kind of morbid phantasies are satisfied by showing such pictures worldwide. Did that change anything for better? Are such procedures generally acceptable from an ethical standpoint? What will come next? Just a question! sk
