Guest guest
Pacifiers come in all flavors. There is the Heaven pacifier, the reincarnation pacifier, and the more sophisticated No-self pacifier. Believers suck on these ideas, and feel comforted and secure. Jack doesn't exist. So no need to do, or stop doing, no need to look deeper, drop old habits. Once people find their favorite pacifier they go to sleep, even if it's a restless sleep. It's not that the idea is false, it's that is just an idea. No real change has taken place in the brain. The old vulnerabilities, and fears are still in place. The old defensive, aggressive, acquisitive stance is there. The mind is still restless, and fears its own subsiding. These people still depend on though for their sense of self, even when chanting I'm nothing. What ones believes, what one understands means jack. It's only when one is able to leave the light of one's understanding behind, and step boldly into the darkness of the unknown, that real freedom comes. Guest guest
Hey, Pete I couldn't have said it better my own self. If one is just trusting in words & feel-good sentiments, they are no more free than the person who trusts in their lucky rabbit's foot or their magick sigil or their plastic Virgin Mary. I can get distracted & sidetracked sometimes. I get off on the trippy phenomena I encounter in my meditation. But, again, it aint me. Like the Maharaj said, anything that you can perceive is not you. One has to get past all the fascinating visions & self-proclaimed insights & keep on keeping on til they transcend all phenomena. Until then, we're still just barking at our own shadows. Happy trails to you, my friend peace danananda Nisargadatta , pete seesaw <seesaw1us> wrote: > Pacifiers come in all flavors.
