There is no Self to be conscious of. you don't know this. all you're conscious of now is sensory input. >Consciosness could be aware of itself, but for that, awareness of sensory input, need not be stopped. you don't know this. all you're conscious of now is sensory input. >My point was that >the stopping of sensory input, as described above in the text: " Sitting meditation is the shutting down >of all sense stimuli in order to realise that awareness is not a function of the senses or of the thinking process. " Stated >that way it sounds like a prescription, a task to be done while meditating. it's not a task, a doing. because consciousness is not a doing, it is your natural state. this is why they say meditation is non-doing. all they are saying here is that in order for conscioussness to experience itself all sensory input has to stop. it stops naturally when you sit silently, doing nothing. (they say...) but for this you have to not concentrate on anything. this is the difference between concentration and meditation. you just let go of all objects of the senses and the mind. what they say here does not mean shut your eyes and ears, etc. you know that the mind is the sixth sense, right? even if you shut all your senses the mind remains. thoughts are objects too - they have to disappear. feelings are objects too - they have to disappear. when all this is gone and there is only consciousness, you are in meditation. sitting quietly, doing nothing. and if you don't get it, you miss. this is the key to all. dabo thinking too much because of posts Maybe that was only my interpretation. But if that was intended as a task to be performed, then I repeat, it's vely vely bad advice. > > sorry for the big dosages... > hope it wasn't TOO MUCH. > > > P: No, chocolate merengue pie is never too much. > > > > > > dabo the unconscious piethrower | > | > | > | > | > | > | > | > | Words must be used like stepping stones: lightly and with nimbleness, > | because if you step on them too heavily, you incur the danger of falling > | into the intellectual mire of logic and reason. - Balsekar > | ********************************* > | AdvaitaToZen > |
