When have you made a choice?

Have you caught yourself in the act?

If not... how can you claim to ever

have made one?

And if so... then who was doing the

catching, and who the choosing?

Bill, I think Al could like playing with this questions.

This was an interesting question. I can think of many choices I have

made, but what is that other than a frozen past. The question is, can

I make a choice now? To make a choice I must first come up with

something to choose between, but what comes up in my mind, I don't

create myself. I don't create my thoughts. I can only observe them

*after* they have been created. But let's assume that I have X and Y

to choose between. I can observe myself choosing X or Y, but what

about the choice itself? If I have real free will it means that I can

alter the moment. I must be able to change the moment itself, or it

would not be real free will. If that is so, then there are two things

that can change the moment itself: time and free will. But there is

only one moment. Think of the present moment as a steering wheel in a

car where both time and free will are trying to turn the wheel in

different directions. If free will really could change the moment

then time also would be affected. Can free will change time? Can I

make time go faster or slower? I think not.
