Guest guest
What is your Self? The answer is that your Self is the Source of all that you experience. >>>>>>>> There is no " source " of experience. Bill - anders_lindman Nisargadatta Thursday, July 01, 2004 5:14 AM The Source of your Self What is your Self? The answer is that your Self is the Source of all that you experience. The Source itself is changeless. You as you really are is a changeless state. The intellect is not changeless nor is the body. Pure awareness is changeless. You are that pure awareness. I know, this sounds like a second-hand spiritual information from the 90:th, but rest assured that whatever measurable " object " appearing in your way is not you. The changing objects of this world, be it money, thoughts or feelings, are passing clouds and nothing more than that. Happiness, true happiness cannot be found in objects, because separate objects are illusions (yes, even money is an illusion). Deep, radical happiness can only be found in the changeless Source that you are. You, yourself is changeless. Your REAL existence is changeless. Don't for a second believe that the passing show is what you are. What changes is there for you to enjoy, not for you to identify yourself with! :-) I can hear your thoughts; " What a load of crap! That which is changing is also me. " But tell me, what is aware of change? Can change be aware of itself? How can there be change if there is no relation to that which does not change? Tell me that. /AL ** If you do not wish to receive individual emails, to change your subscription, sign in with your ID and go to Edit My Groups: /mygroups?edit=1 Under the Message Delivery option, choose " No Email " for the Nisargadatta group and click on Save Changes. Guest guest
The funny thing that I have noticed, Anders, is that the more you try to find a word for " It " the more the word/words get mushy, diffuse... In other words, the more you try to nail it down, the more rubbery the nail gets! You wrote: What is is. That is great, and sure nuf I do agree. But what have you said? And why have a term for your Self at all? Is there really anything there you need to refer to? If it is not " over here " nor " over there " ... why does it need to be referred to at all? Is " I am that which cannot be referred to, " a contradiction in terms in that I have inherently made a reference to " it " in using the terms " that " and " I " ? Even " I am " seems untenable to me. What Is is. But even that is fading. When What Is is gone, what then? " The world " is an ancient memory, words that have lost their ring. And Presence no longer has a " taste " . It too has faded. Beyond beyond beyond 'tis said. Ahhh yes beyond beyond beyond Bill - anders_lindman Nisargadatta Thursday, July 01, 2004 2:49 PM Re:: The Source of your Self Nisargadatta , " Bill Rishel " <plexus@a...> wrote: > What is your Self? Guest guest
Ironic that you mention her as just this afternoon I was thinking to mention her re a message on another list Yes, I've read her first book (The Path of No-Self I think it is called). Don't recall the " insipid flat world " you mention... but fits with what I recall of her. A friend has done a number of workshops with her and thinks the world of her (not insipid and flat tho : ). Now I'm wondering if the world seems insipid and flat to me.... I guess it seems vague and ghostly... like in extreme slow motion... Which of her books did you see that in? " Although Roberts never divorced her Christian theology, and often seems to go thru conceptual contortions to fit her insights into Christian Dogma, sometimes she sound remarkably like Nis as in the paragraph I quote below from the book I just mentioned. " The Divine is not self, has no self, and is not even aware of itself; the divine is beyond all man calls awareness or consciosness. Divine knowing is something else entirely; it cann't be grasped by the mind, and its not an experience. " The question arises, how come if it's completely outside the mind grasp, her mind is writing about it? Mind must get some kind of intimation for it to talk about the Divine. And why use the word knowledge if it has nothing to do with mind? I am not trying to find a word for anything. All words are like the word " two " . I can say " I have two arms " , but there is no " two " without the arms. I cannot meaningfully say: " I have two " . Two what? The number two is not found anywhere existing by itself. So of course there can never be any word for the infinite. The words " infinite " or " totality " or " Source " or " God " are words, and as all words they are only pointers. > > In other words, the more you try to nail it down, > the more rubbery the nail gets! > > You wrote: What is is. All this pointing to what is is of course only a game within what is. Nothing needs to be done. All is happening by itself. There is no doer involved anywhere. You are seeking for meaning, when the meaning is right in your face! Always. And even this seeking is no 'you' doing the seeking. You are not doing yourself.
