Tension in body and mind

Know Thyself means to recognize that part of you that is your past:

knowledge, relations, experiences, ideas, wants, don't wants e t c.

This past is the separate 'you' and it is all fine except that

this 'you' is a limited fragment built up from genetic inheritance

and social conditioning. This fragment exists in you as an illusion

of separation which creates tension in body and mind. Over many years

this conflict has - among other things - built up a muscle tension in

your body. You may not even be aware of the contractions in your

body. Stiffness and numbness is often not recognized because that is

the standard sensation of how the body feels for many people.

It is not muscle tension that is the sole problem. The main problem

is that there is an unbalance in the body (and in relation to the

mind). Some muscles are too tense, while others are too relaxed.

Consider the muscles that control the eyes. In a relaxed state, these

muscles are neither tense nor relaxed; they are half-tense. This

means that your eyes are resting at a position looking straight

ahead. When you look to left, then some of the muscles controlling

the eyes become more tense, while the other muscles becomes more

loose (streched). So, relaxation of the body is not just about

letting all muscles become limp as a rag. When we breath, there is an

advanced coordination of muscle tension and streching going on, and

when the breating is in balance there if no effort involved. Only

when the extraordinary complex network of muscles in the body is out

of synch is there effort.

Tense painful areas in your body is a result of other muscles being

too relaxed or numbed. When your mind and body are in balance you

will feel tremendously alive and light as a feather - moving around

will be like walking on air. That, at least, is my idea. :-)
