Guest guest
Resistance to that-which-is....is the very insulation that isolates the egoic-identification. It is resistance to that-which-is that keeps it temporarily safe and isolated. Its quest for enlightenment.....and its denial of its own desires...are equally efficient self-maintance mechanisms. Resistance.......is the tension...out of which the illusion of self emerges. toombaru

Resistances are an interesting topic for discussion. I agree almost with your post and the above written statement. Perhaps you could expand on what you mean with " resistance " . I think that resistance is a key-word; I will try to expand on that, too. Later. Great post, Toombaru! Kip Almazy

Desire...is nothing but resistance to what-is. The desire for self improvement or spiritual refinement....is only a subtle form of resistance...and only adds credibility to that which is only the residue of resistance...... Guest guest
Hi Toombaru! my 2 pence Resistance to what-is..... Kip: your points actually designate a gap. It is actually this gap against what resistance is targeted. " What is " is an expression, a word, " signifier " targeted directly against something localized in the " imaginary order " . An object lacks, the " signified " isn't present in, " what is " . " What is " followed by a gap, representing the Other (the unconscious). or what the entity perceives the external conditions to be in relation to its self......is the plenum out of which the illusion of autonomy forms and sustains itself. Kip: Plenum ( wholeness) belongs to the " order of the real " . The real is an uncrossable threshold for the subject. http://web.uvic.ca/~saross/lacan.html Desire...is nothing but resistance to what-is. Kip: Indeed! Reposting: In constructing our fantasy-version of reality, we establish coordinates for our desire; we situate both ourselves and our object of desire, as well as the relation between. As Slavoj Zizek puts it, " through fantasy, we learn how to desire " (Looking Awry 6). Our desires therefore necessarily rely on lack, since fantasy, by definition, does not correspond to anything in the real. Our object of desire (what Lacan terms the " objet petit a " ) is a way for us to establish coordinates for our own desire. At the heart of desire is a misregognition of fullness where there is really nothing but a screen for our own narcissistic projections. It is that lack at the heart of desire that ensures we continue to desire. To come too close to our object of desire threatens to uncover the lack that is, in fact, necessary for our desire to persist, so that, ultimately, desire is most interested not in fully attaining the object of desire but in keeping our distance, thus allowing desire to persist [Enlightenment?]. Because desire is articulated through fantasy, it is driven to some extent by its own impossibility The desire for self improvement or spiritual refinement....is only a subtle form of resistance...and only adds credibility to that which is only the residue of resistance...... Kip: Nice perspective! Resistance results in friction........ Friction is the fire of creation.......... Kip: In the " register of the real " creation is what is lacking in relation to desire........creation is impossible. Kip Almazy
