Guest guest
Disciple: What is time? Master: Time is the past. D: What is the past? M: Don't you know what the past is?! D: I think I do. M: Then why do you ask? D: But you said time is the past. M: Yes. D: Time is more than the past. M: Is it? In what way? D: There is also the future. Time is in past and future, not only in the past. M: The future is the past. D: The future is clearly not the past, because then we would not need a different word for it. M: The word 'car' and the word 'tire' are different, yet a car can have tires. D: But a tire cannot have a car. M: Precisely. D: So the past can have a future, but the future cannot have a past. M: You catch on pretty quick... D: Hey, wait a minute. The future can have a past too, every future will have a past. M: When you say 'will have' you leave the present moment. D: I am talking about the future when I say 'will have' and that future will obviously have a past! M: You create a future, and that future is only a tire _in this moment_. D: So everytime I say 'will have' I am only talking about a tire. M: Yes, not only that, you separate one tire from the car as if that really is possible, but that separation is an illusion. D: What do you mean illusion? M: Everytime you say 'will have' or 'will be' you create a 'not now' and that is not even a tire, it is only the idea of a separate tire, and that idea is the illusion. And then you say that this illusion you have created contains a past. The fact is that the illusion is a part of the past in this moment and does not contain any other past than that. All there is now is the past and the now. That past contains all illusions of a future. D: So there is only now and the past. M: Yes. The now is the road and the past is a car. D: If the now is a road, what then is time? M: Time is a car. :-) /AL
