In his book " Being and Nothingness " ( L'Etre et le Neant) he asserts that there is only consciousness and the other. The other is always an object, and there ensues the eternal battle between the subject and nothingness, and the others always trying to objectify h/her. Outside France he Is the best well known French phil besides Descartes. French phils are so mediocre, that only Sartre, Descartes and Derrida are known outside France. Matter of fact, Eric is the fourth most popular French phil. Isn't that sad? )

Isn't that sad? ) Which proves again that you guys want France without the French, the image ouside (a very sad one indeed) that we are good lovers, that we don't wash but use perfume instead, that we are specialists of foods and wines, that we are clever and sneaky (is that a clichee i don't remember now), that we produced great guys (most of them from foreign origin because France has an obvious crossroads position in Europe)... all that is not felt or discussed or even envisioned within the territory, when we meet among french dudes we talk about money, fart, Bush ... (sometimes Bush first and fart next) ... but philosophy i had to take some lousy classes at school where everyone was sleeping, and i discovered everything here on the net with you guys. > > > >
