Guest guest
What exactly do you mean by the word choice? It seems to mean that thought can imagine two or more possible alternatives in the projected future. Thought evaluates them and appears to select one. It is a process that functions by artifically dividing the world into parts, most basically by dividing subject from object: the chooser from the chosen. An apparent fork in the road appears, and there is the thought: " I am at a fork in the road. I could go down Road A or Road B, " Then further thoughts: " If I go this way, this might happen. If I go that way, that might happen. Then, Going-Down-Road A happens. And the thought, I am going down Road A. I chose Road A. I could have gone down Road B. " But the " I " separate from Road A is imaginary. It is a creation of thought. Actually, " I " and " Road " A " are one event. " Me going down Road B " exists only as an imaginary idea, a thought, occuring now, as part of Going-Down-Road-A. There is no such actuality outside that thought. Going-Down-Road A is one whole event, undivided from the fork in the road, and the road before that, indivisible from everything. There was never a choice, only the appearance of one. There was no one separate from what is to choose one direction or the other. The decision, the choice, is only a way of conceptualizing and thinking about what has occurred. Nothing could actually be any different from how it is. Past and future are in the mind. Time itself is in the mind; it is a way of thinking; it has no actual reality. Only this is. ******************************************* Who wrote this? A. The Reverend Billy Graham B. George Bush C. Guest guest
Obviously we are choosing all the time. But the misconception is, that some people believe there was a " free will " behind those choices. It is sooo very easy to disprove this funny idea! All those thoughts... choices... are coming up without control of any " will " . Just watch it, everybody!... for 30 seconds... if you have already had a strong coffe, latest after 20 seconds there comes a choice. Maybe one like: " I just have to open my eyes for a millisecond, to check if I have put bread in the toaster " . Where was the free will before that? Did you see it? There is none, believe me... Where would you locate it? The choice comes up because the mind cannot see the " oneness " between " not opening eyes/opening eyes " . Another simple thought leads to the same conclusion: whenever you may recognise " I make a choice " , the " making " of the choice has already passed. You cannot undo this choice! You only can make another choice instead, and with that choice it is the same etc..etc... . Look at it now: this chain. If you ever really look, the idea of " free will " will vanish forever. Believe me, there will be quite some relief and a door might open (symbolicaly and dreamed)for some new thoughts, that are still waiting to be thought in your grey cells. But your " free will " will NOT bring them up. They come... when they come... ___ who wrote this? Funny thing is, it doesn't matter either way. I still make choices. Life still happens as it does. Joe
