If you try to be somebody according to the past, even if it is such a simple thing as trying to follow the latest fashion in clothing, or trying to live up to the ideas erected by society, then you will only follow the past. Nothing wrong with that. But if your _entire_ sense of self is based on that then you will not know who you are, and no matter how cheery you may try to look on the outside, you will have a confused inside.
