Guest guest
Freedom from time must come from embracing the concept of time. If we ignore time, then we ignore society and then we ignore ourselves, for we are integral parts of society. But time as experienced by people is mechanistic; " 3 PM today, tomorrow afternoon, 4 July, May 2005, ... This robot-like nature of time has a very necessary purpose, but also a very nasty limitation. The purpose is to create a machinery, a map for society consisting of discrete points and intervals in time, with which it plays an effective part synchronizing individual humans into a larger whole called society. The limitation of this view of time is that it tends to make humans omit the stuff _between_ significant events in time. Sure, significant events are significant events, but if we _only_ live our lives governed by this form of calendar time, then we become experts in living future lives. Then the future becomes more important than the present moment. And not only is this future nor real but it is also only a personal view that is _different_ from person to person. And not only that. Every future view is mechanistic in that it pinpoints discrete events and periods in time. Every person carries with him or her a personal mechanistic map called " my future " , and they wonder why their personal relationships are constantly in chaos, or at least not flowing harmoniously. How stupid can one get? Are you your future? No. Your future is not you. Your future is social conditioning running your life! Are you sure life cannot handle your future? Are you sure you need to control your future all the time? Are you sure this control is you and not social conditioning running your life? Abandon all ideas about the future. Or better yet, abandon _all_ your plans about the future - ALL OF THEM. Those plans only makes you rigid. Those plans make you mechanistic. Those plans make you clash with other robots governed by similar but slightly differents plans. Tell all you plans for the future: how about: I give you the finger, and you give me my life back! Then you cease to be a robot. Then you cease to be unhappy. Then you cease to be a slave. Then you cease to live in a personal nightmare-dream-world called " your future " , which is not your future at all, but a mechanistic result of social conditioning. " Most of these people are so inert, so helplessly dependent on the system that they will fight to protect it. " -- Morpheus in the Matrix movie How real is the future for you? Ponder that for a long time, you stupid robot! /AL
