Guest guest
This " Terry Schiavo " case, which has literally been all over the news for the last few days, presents a perfect opportunity (for a few, for a few) to peek up the skirt of Life, and see something they'd never see otherwise, and those few who already comprehend this (because they can already DO that, and DO do that on a regular basis) must be brain smiling from lobe to lobe right now. The question as to what a human being actually IS, is at the central core of this whole " debate " carried on by the two, well-defined camps who are publically involved, dragging along (by their more-submissive thought-processes) the rest of the country if not the world - by design of course. People everywhere believe THEY themselves ARE a human being, because they can talk to other people, and those other people can understand them. They believe that just because they can move their mouths intentionally, and with purpose, that they are conscious, and that is what being human is - being conscious that one is a human, AS OPPOSED to, not knowing that one is a human. That is, dogs are not human, because they are not conscious of being a dog - for a dog, all things are either FOOD, DOG, or irrelevant (unknown). Their awareness of being alive is wholly instinctive (coupled with a smattering of instinctive emotions), and thought has no place in their lives. When a person is not conscious of himself being alive and conscious of that fact, then he is not human right then. He is part of the environment, part of the animal kingdom, part of the material world, but HUMAN, nope, not right then. When you come >>right down to it<<, I mean face-to-face with it, humans - talking apes - are no different than Terry Schiavo, 95% of the time!! Oh, you can argue the percentages if you feel so inclined, but the moment your internal anger/argument subsides - and you forget you were thinking about that - IT moves on to something else in the daydream reverie which is your ordinary life. You and Terry are One. Just being able to talk and be " understood " is NOT what being human is all about - and 99.99999% of the planet is stuck in that mode, of just being talking apes, most of the time. " Someone, please, remove the feeding tube once and for all!!! " , she screams, but it only falls on deaf and dumb ears.
