Oh, Lawdie, the first time my wife and I camped up on Mt. Mitchell we

nearly froze our balls off. Talk about cold!!!!!

 

When I said I was going to get ready for circumambulation around Mt.

Mitchell I meant I was going to practice inside until June or July or

whenever it's warm enough to camp out there.

 

Funny you mention Clingman's Dome, which is in the Great Smokies, and

one of my wife's very favorite places (along with Cades Cove, also in

the Smokies).

 

I think Mt. Mitchell is a coupla hundred feet higher, actually, than

Clingman's Dome but I know that they are pretty close in height.

 

Problem is, most of the time you can't see shit from Clingman's Dome

b/c of all the air pollution, but it's a beautiful place nevertheless.

 

The first time we camped on Mt. Mitchell we got busted by a park

ranger b/c we had our dogs on leashes that were longer than the 6'

max.

 

It was colder 'n shit and there was nobody else camping and this guy

has hassling us b/c of the dogs and the fact that our tent was too

big for the designated tent area.

 

We offered him a joint and told him to cool out, but he was one of

the dualistic Christian types who look askance at people just trying

to perform a few austerities.

 

Only kidding about the joint. We would have definitely wound up in

the Asheville Jailhouse for certain, had we tried to lay that on him.

 

But once again, it was all good.

 

How could it not have been?
