from the booklet " the six paramitas " by Zen Master Sheng-Yen:

--------------------------

[T]his aspiration to alleviate the suffering of others without

concerns for one's own nirvana is anuttara (unsurpassed) bodhi-mind.

While diligently practicing the Dharma, such a practicioner realizes

that nirvana is not a blissful, abiding state in which one rejects

samsara, the existential realm of suffering. Without rejecting or

clinging to nirvana, a bodhisattva vows to return to wordly existence

to help sentinet beings.

..............

To conclude, I emphasize that prajna is wisdom, and wisdom is the

attitude of no self. This means not having an attitude that is based

on self-centered perspective. Please do not misunderstand that this

attitude of no self means that there is nothing out there. The self of

wisdom is there to solve problems; the self of compassion is there to

benefit people.

devi: since this IS a sri nizargadatta group, i'll write you

smething that he teaches

Nisargadatta: There is only imagination. The intelligencce and power

are all used up in your imagination. It has absorbed you so

completely that you just cannot grasp how far from reality you have

wandered. No dobt imagination is richely creative. Universe within

universe are built on it. Yet they are all in space and time, past

and future, which just do not exist....

Only very young souls cling to the concept that there is such a thing as a soul.

Yes, we put up with devi, she's about 6 years old.

It's not in the cards for her. She doesn't have the

common sense, the mentality, the " inclination " to

think things through.
