Nov6, 1960: Shirdi Sansthan's administration was taken over by the City Civil Court and a " Court Receiver " was appointed. ------ 3. FOOT STEPS OF THE HOLY FEET –16 http://www.ebeacon.indiainabook.com/other_books.htm EXPERIENCES OF SAI.BA.NI.SA WITH SHIRDI SAI The mode in which Baba relieved son of Shri.Khaparde suffering from plague as depicted in Sai Satcharitra -7th chapter is heart rendering. SAI has taken on to himself the disease and freed the child from the pain and agony. He was instrumental in saving Dr.Pillai from the Guinea worms by fore telling and organizing timely arrival of Abdul while, addressing him as a crow - as highlighted in the 34th chapter. Sai used to come to the rescue of many a people's sufferings. I too have undergone similar experiences and it is my desire that I should share with my fellow devotees. Even today my eyes go wet when I think of those incidents of the past and humbly bow down to Sai with full devotion. 12th Jan. 1993 was the date as I recapture. I was suffering from severe pain in my right ankle and could not even walk. I called for his grace and asked him to save me from the crisis. It was at 05:00 A.M our cat was crying and on opening the door my wife found that it has broken its leg and was limping on three legs and laying hard to balance and walk. I could not bear the site of its suffering but at the same time, I myself was in a helpless state. It then struck to my mind about my prayer to SAI the previous night. By now I got sure that Sai in the form of our cat has undergone the pain to provide me with much desired relief by evening of the day my pain started receding but the cat suffered for 10 days. It dates back 15th March 1993 when I had a Heart ailment. Doctors advised me to go in for Stress test and fixed up the appointment for 17th March 1993 at MEDWIN HOSPITAL. Electrodes were attached at different locations on my body. The patient just before me has already taken the test on TREADMILL and he faced lot of discomfort. I was skeptical about my own capability to with stand the pressures of the test. I prayed for Sai and looked towards him to share my burden as he has assertively said that - cast your burden on me and I shall bear it. I desired that Sai should be with me so that I can come out of the test successful. For some reason; I do not know the Doctor left the, place and another Doctor stepped in. I stopped on to the pedestal and commenced to walk gradually increasing the speed. The Doctor was bending down to make certain observations and recordings. As he bent down the, silver dollar attached to his chain came out hanging with Sai's image cast on it with typical smile writ on the face. I felt happy as if Sai himself has come down in the form of doctor to serve. The Doctor has told me not to worry and advised me to go in for evening walks and prescribed ALPREX tablets - 0.2 mg. Saying so he handed over a pack of 30 tablets for my use. The thought still lingers in my mind that Sai has come down as Doctor, performed the tests and given me the medicines. BOW TO SAI - PEACE TO ALL -------------------------------- 4. SAI IN DREAMS: http://www.ebeacon.indiainabook.com/ These are the dream sequences and messages as received by SAIBANISA From our beloved GURU LORD SAINATH OF SHIRIDI. In Anticipation that this Feature will help in one's spiritual growth are hereby compiled from his personal Diary and presented to SAIBANDHUS. Translated and presented by RAGHU RAMAN SATULURY. 24-01-1994 Yesterday I completed Sai Satcharita Parayana in English. I got back Rupees Three Thousand due to me, but left me with an internal conflict whether I should continue with the Parayana with the English version or my earlier practice of Telugu version. As usual I was at HIS feet seeking Advice. Sri Sai appeared in the form of our Ex. President of India loudly reading the Telugu Sai Satchaita book. " I inferred that I should continue my earlier habit " . The language well understood is the right medium to bridge the gap. 25-01-1994 I commenced the reading of Telugu version of Sai Satcharita and sought HIS blessings. Sai was advising me in the form of an unknown person- -Your daughter will leave to her in-law's place. Likewise your daughter-in-law is also an outsider. Never subject them to tears. There is nothing to celebrate the arrival of a son in the family, as there is no guarantee that life will end on a happy note. " Son or daughter does not make any difference. Sow seeds for spiritual fruit which alone can take you to the destiny " . You came alone to go alone .God only could take you to the destiny. 30-01-1994 The day was spent very happily. I prayed Baba to tell me something about the times when HE was in flesh and blood. Sai has shown the following visuals: Devotees during those days used to celebrate the newborn's arrival by offering food to all and it was observed as a community function. Now days that is not in practice. People were mutually helping each other in the hour of need. Whereas in the present day World, nobody bothers for anybody, does not even try to know about his immediate neighbor. There is no value for word now whereas people lived by word as word meant everything to them in the past. There is a gradual deterioration in the human values of the past as self-interest is increasingly becoming important. To be continued….. ---- 5. QUINTESSENCE OF SRI SAIBABA'S PHILOSOPHY: (By Late Sri Bharam UmamaheswaraRao) " Shashi " : shashi_31 Sri Sai Baba valued social ties and never condemned family ties In Charters & Sayings – Pujya Sri B.V. Narasimha Swamiji mentioned the following facts: Baba never considered family ties as hindrance to get Jnana. He referred to the fact that the had various relations, Viz. father, mother, brothers, sisters and cousins and that he maintained a high level of duty towards everyone of them in every Janma or birth. For instance, he has in one Janma supported his brothers by undertaking contract work and helped to feed them all. Then on another occasion when a brother of his was excommunicated, he worked hard and got him readmitted to caste. In one Janma, when his father's mistress, whom he considered to be his mother, was suffering, he fed her, treated her and cured her and was kind towards him because she was the wife of his father. He did his best for his friends like Veerabhadrappa, Basappa, etc. giving them whatever help was also essential. A perusal of Charters & Sayings of Sri Narasimha Swamiji would show that Baba valued social ties and never condemned them. So nobody should hate family ties but to honor them and see that they are worked not in a narrow spirit but in a spirit of Universal outlook and sympathy. Sri Narasimha Swamiji says: that if our love towards our friends and relations and mankind should enable us to love others and go on widening the circle of persons, who would receive our help and sympathy, family ties will not be a curse but a blessing. Thus we see that Baba favored the continued family ties, even if one is spiritually advancing, so that in due course of time, the family circle will enlarge itself and embrace more and more people to be included as inhabitants of the world, heading to a Universal family of VASUDAIKA KUTUMBAM. To be continued….. -------------- 6. SANATANA DHARMA & SRI SHIRDI SAIBABA Saibanisa-Gopalarao Ravada—Saidarbar Hyderabad –India SRI MAHA BHAGAVATHAM—SRI SHIRDI SAI SATCHARITA 19) Sri.Krishna traditionally welcomed his childhood friend Kuchela when the later visited him. Sri.Krishna offered Kuchela his throne, placed all the princely comforts at his command and gladly accepted the modest presentation of pound rice brought by him. Khaparde's wife visited Baba during his lunch time and offered him with variety of food preparations in Dwarakamayi. Sri Sainath happily accepted the preparations. Later both were engaged in serving each other affectionately. Baba told the gathering seated there about her past five lives. Thereby Baba demonstrated that there exists no difference between God and his devotee on the spiritual plane 20) Sri.Krishna accepted the pound rice as gift from Kuchela not before asking Kuchela as to what he had brought for him. Kuchela was feeling shy and uncomfortable to offer him the simple gift. Sri.Krishna told him that it would have the highest value for him and shall be a feast to him. A similar situation happens to an old woman .In Shiridi on the day of Sri Ramanavami during the year 1914. She was feeling delicate to offer him a simple loaf of bread. Sai approached her with an all the affection and fulfilled her desire by accepting the loaf of bread. 21) Sri Krishna tells Dharmaraja- " who so ever is my favorite; I shall rid him of all the treasures and Worldly comforts to enable him to seek me and desire nothing except longing for my association which is the final goal for everyone. Sri Sainath never encouraged his staunch devotee Mahilsapathi to succumb to the desire for money and never gave him any either. Baba did not allow him to accept the one thousand silver coins which a wealthy businessman wanted to present to Mahilsapathi. Towards the end Mahilsapathi was granted with a ceremonial moksha and took him to the heavenly abode in a befitting manner. ------------------------------- SANATANA DHARMA –NEWS FROM ABROAD: http://www.geocities.com/Athens/2583/toigaborone.htm Gaborone Hindu Temple- Botswana- Africa This Hindu Temple is at the capital city of Botswana, namely, Gaborone. In ancient India, sage Ashtavakra was known to be very intelligent and spiritually well advanced rishi who realized self or Atman. More information about his birth and life comes from Indian epic Mahabharata. Sage Uddalaka ran a school (Ashram) teaching Vedic knowledge. Kahola was one of his best disciples. Uddalaka was so pleased with him that he got his daughter Sujata married to him. Sujata eventually got pregnant and wanted her child to surpass all the sages of his time in spirituality and intelligence. So, she began to sit in the classes taught by Uddalaka and Kahola, listening to their chanting of mantras with the unborn baby. In ancient India, there was a belief that when expectant mothers expose themselves spiritual teachings the child in the womb hears it and gathers that knowledge and becomes a genius in that spiritual area after its birth. It was one day; Kahola recited the Vedas as laid down in the disciplinary rules, but within hearing distance of the child growing in the womb. It heard the recitation but, since it was already aware of the correct pronunciation of every syllable since its mother used to attend classes with rapt attention, whenever Kahola spelt a syllable wrong, it squirmed in distress. So, when the baby was born, it had eight bends, crooked in eight places, in fact! Naturally, he was named Ashtavakra (Eight Bends). Later Ashtavakra grew into a spiritually advanced rishi and realized Atman. He went to Mithila and instructed King janaka about the concept of Atman this forms the content of Ashtavakra Gita or Ashtavakra Samhita as it is sometimes called ----------------- 8. DEVOTEES EXPERIENCES: saiers_1999 10/26/2005 20:43:49 -0600 From Sai Eshwari Canada God is the Bliss of the existence! Through Grace (Chit Shakti) in this wonderful universe, God has created billions of creatures and beings (including gods, demigods, insects, beasts and men) inhabiting heaven, hell, earth, ocean, sky and other intermediate regions. The importance and special value of human birth is, Man is being endowed with a special faculty i.e., Knowledge, with the help of which he can attain God-vision, which is impossible in any other birth. It is for this reason that Gods envy man's fortune and aspire to be born as men on earth, so as to get their final deliverance. Thus, human body should neither be neglected nor fondled, but should ever be engaged to attain God-Vision or Self Realization which is the supreme end of life. Realizing how precious the human life is, and knowing that Death is certain and may snatch us at any time, we should be ever alert and strive to attain the object of our life i.e., Self Realization. The most effective and speedy way to gain our object is to approach a worthy Saint or Sadguru, who has himself attained God Vision. The virtues of forgiveness, calmness, charity, benevolence, control of mind and body, egolessness etc., are observed by the disciples as they are being practiced in such pure and holy company. This enlightens their minds and lifts them up spiritually. Lord Sainath was such a Sadguru. Though He acted as a Fakir He was always engrossed in the Self. He always loved all beings in whom He saw God or Divinity. Baba said that He was Omnipresent, occupying land, air, country, world, light and heaven. If any devotee meditated on Him day and night with complete self-surrender, he experienced complete union with Him. One, who wants to get rid of the cycle of births and deaths, should lead a righteous life, with his mind calm and composed. He should always engage himself in good actions, should do his duties and surrender himself completely to HIM with Love and devotion and then see how; He helps him, off and on, in so many things. Sai Baba always encouraged good thoughts and conduct. The following words of Baba regarding our behavior are very invaluable and if they are kept in mind and acted upon, they will always do us good. " Unless there is some relationship or connection, nobody goes anywhere. If any men or creatures come to you, do not discourteously drive them away, but receive and treat them, with due respect. Shri Hari will be certainly pleased, if you give water to the thirsty, bread to the hungry, clothes to the naked, and your verandah to strangers for sitting and resting. Let anybody speak hundreds of things against you, do not resent by giving any bitter reply. If you always tolerate such things, you will certainly be happy. Let the world go topsy-turvy, you remain where you are. Standing in your own place, look on calmly at the show of all things passing before you, God is the sole Proprietor and nobody else is our Protector. His method of work is extra-ordinary, invaluable, and inscrutable. He will show us the way, and satisfy our heart's desires. It is on account of Rinanubandha (former relationship) that we have come together, let us love and serve each other and be happy. He, who attains the Supreme goal of life, is immortal and happy; all others merely exist, live so long as they breathe " . (Chap 18/19 Sai Satcharitra) Baba required no special place, nor any special time for giving instructions or Upadesh. Whenever any occasion demanded, He gave them freely. Generally, we see that people have a tendency to scandalize others unnecessarily, and this brings on hatred and ill-will. Saints see scandal, in another light. They say that there are various ways of cleansing or removing dirt, viz., by means of earth, water and soap etc. But a scandal monger removes the dirt of others by his tongue, so in a way, obliges the person, whom he reviles and for this he is to be thanked. Once, When a Bhakta of Baba abused another behind his back and was speaking so sarcastically that the hearers were disgusted, Baba in his own method of correcting the scandal monger has pointed out to him a pig that was eating filth near the fence and said to him " Behold how, with what relish it is gorging dung. Your conduct is similar. You go on reviling your own brethren to your heart's content. After performing many deeds of merit, you are born a man, and if you act like this, will Shirdi help you in any way? " (Chap 18/19 SSS) In this way Baba went on giving instructions whenever necessary. There was No limit, nor restriction to His instructions. It is impossible to describe all His ways and methods. If these are borne in our minds and acted upon, the Spiritual goal (Realization) is not far off. One has to exert himself to his utmost for attaining Self Realization. The more he endeavors, the better for him. He, who trusts Him entirely, hears and expounds His Leelas and does not think of anything else, is sure to attain Self Realization. Therefore have Faith only in the Supreme Divinity, surrendering your life to him in the True Knowledge. Lord Krishna thus mentioned in Geeta " Non-envious, friendly and compassionate towards all beings, free from ideas of passion and ego-consciousness, sympathetic in pain and pleasure, forgiving, always contented, contemplative, self controlled of firm conviction with his mind and intellect dedicated to Me - such a devotee is dear to Me " . ----------------------- telangts 10/28/2005 16:29:08 -0600 Tejal Telang Australia Sai Ram! I am a staunch devotee of Shirdi Sai. In my life I have many experiences which made me realize that I am a blessed child of Sri Sai. He has always come to my help whenever I have needed him the most. One of the experiences that I would like to narrate here is that on the 2nd Oct this year, I called my elder sister in India, to wish her on her 50th birthday. On calling her that day I was told that my sister is in the hospital with my mother you are undergoing a stroke since the earlier night. At this, I did not know what to do from so far (Australia) and the first thing that came to my mind was praying to my beloved Sai to be by her side and stop the unsettling condition. I was told that it takes 72 hrs for a patient's condition to settle, but instead it was taking longer in my mother's case who is aged 74 yrs. At this I again sat before Sai's photo and cried for help and asked him to show me some miracle. On the next day when I called up India, my brother told me that all the rumbling and other things have settled and also that my mother has undergone a minor stroke and not a serious one that it seemed earlier. The doctors said that her right side is affected, but she will be able to walk on her own in about 3-4 months time. She will also be able to use her right hand though to a limited extend. My humble thanks to Sai for not letting my mother's condition detoriate. There have been many such instances in my life where Sai has actually helped me against what is written in my horoscope. I would advice all the readers to have undoubtful faith in Sai. I have fulfilled my vow to Sri Sai by narrating this experience in the Sai Leela Magazine. Bow To Sri Sai and Peace Be To All --------------------- 9. SPIRITUAL GEMS FROM SAI SATCHARITRA Swamy " swamymain 10/8/2005 09:18:46 -0700 Sai Ram. Greed is the cousin of Desire and they along with their 4 other cousins are classified as Six Enemies. Kama, Krodha, Lobha, Moha, Mada and Matsarya are the six enemies and they are rightly called internal enemies. They reside in the body-mind-ego complex along with the Jivatma and trouble him. They come as friends and when we try to send them out, trouble us a lot. Crocodile is an appropriate symbol since it represents Kama, the God of desire in Hindu mythology. In Srimad Bhagavatham, the story of Sri Gajendra Moksham is very interesting to read and is full of esoteric significance. Sri Gajendra represents sadhakas like us who are caught up in this samsar and is caught by the crocodile who represents desire. Desire of any kind is an obstacle for spiritual progress. And the sadhaka can fight for eternity but cannot free himself from the crocodile and has to resort to saranagathi to Vishnu, the all pervading God. When God takes mercy on us, He liberates us from the jaws of the crocodile by cutting off its head with Sudarshana Chakra. Sai Ram. Where there is greed, there is no room for thought or meditation of the Brahma. Then how can a greedy man get dispassion and salvation? For a greedy man there is no peace, neither contentment, nor certainty (steadiness). If there be even a little trace of greed in mind, all the Sadhanas (spiritual endeavors) are of no avail. Even the knowledge of a well-read man, who is not free from the desire of the fruit or reward of his actions, and who has got no disgust for the same, is useless and can't help him in getting self-realization. The teachings of a Guru are of no use to a man, who is full of egoism, and who always thinks about the sense-objects. Purification of mind is absolutely necessary; without it, all our spiritual endeavors are nothing, but useless show and pomp. It is, therefore, better for one to take only what he can digest and assimilate. My treasury is full, and I can give anyone, what he wants, but I have to see whether he is qualified to receive what I give. If you listen to Me carefully, you will be certainly benefited. Sitting in this Masjid, I never speak any untruth. " Sai Ram. Baba was again indicating that one should try one's best for progressing on the spiritual path but finally it is Saburi (persistence) that pays one rich dividends. Just as one eats food slowly for digesting it and then only eats, one should listen carefully to what the Guru teaches and absorb it before proceeding further. If you listen to me carefully, you will be certainly benefited, Baba assures all of us. And Baba emphasises that He speaks the truth and nothing but the truth. Whatever the Guru says is bound to come true. This is reinforced in Sri Guru Charitra also. When a guest is invited to a house, all the members of the household and other friends and relations that happen to be present, are entertained, along with the guest. So all those that were present in the Dwarakamai at this time, could partake of the spiritual feast that was served by Baba for the rich gentleman. After getting Baba's blessings, one and all, including the gentleman left the place quite happy and contented. Sai Ram. Thanks to that gentleman, we all are benefited. Sai Ram. We will continue with this chapter in the next issue also. SAI WITH CHILDREN: http://www.saidarbar.org/HTML/portraits/7.jpg Smt. Madhu Gopal Ravada, Saidarbar, Hyderabad. Hello Children! I am Madhu aunty. Do you know Baba use to play with children and used to tell stories to them? I felt children visiting Saidarbar should be entertained with good stories. For the last 2 years I have told you about Lord Krishna's Leelas and Lord Rama Story. Now I want to tell the stories what heard in my child hood. THE WHITE ELEPHANT: Once there lived a white elephant in the foothills of the Himalayas. He was a magnificent creature and ruled over thousands of elephants. Unfortunately, he had an aged and blind mother whom he loved very much. He lovingly took care of all her needs. Once the elephant got annoyed with his subjects over their selfish behaviour. So he left them one night and went with his mother to the far Mount Candorana. There they lived happily in a secluded cave. One day a hunter, who lived in Banaras, lost his way in the forest. For many days he wandered about but could not find a way out of the dense forest. In desperation, he started crying aloud blaming his luck. The elephant, whose cave was nearby, happened to be out for feeding. He heard the hunter's wailings and went near him. The hunter, seeing the huge white elephant, tried to run a way in fear. But the elephant allayed his fears, and asked him his story. The hunter told him that he lived in Banaras and was lost in the dense forest while hunting. The elephant comforted the man and lifting him on his back took him out of the forest. The hunter went back safely to Banaras. Here, in Banaras, King Brahmatta's royal elephant had died only recently. The King announced a big reward to anyone who could let him of an elephant grand enough to be fit for a King. The greedy hunter went to the King and told him about the magnificent white elephant who lived on Mount Candorana. He led the King's men to that place. From a distance, though the thickets, they saw the elephant gathering lotus shoots for the blind mother. The elephant got the scent of the men standing in the distance. He immediately guessed who had brought them there. He said to himself, " what ungrateful creatures men are ! " Now, this elephant was a mighty creature. He could have crushed all these men to death if he had so desired. But he was a noble creature. He hated violence. So he decided to let himself be captured and taken to the King. He decided that he would request the King personally to allow him to go free. That would save a lot of bloodshed. The men captured the elephant and brought him to Banaras. He was kept in the royal stables and given the best food. But he did not touch anything. The keepers of the royal stables got worried. If he did not eat anything he would soon die. So they reported the matter to the King. King Brahamdatta himself went to the elephant's stable. He offered choice green shoots to the elephant with his own hands. When the elephant still refused to eat, the King asked him why he was not eating anything. The elephant replied " Your Majesty, I cannot eat anything. You see, my mother is all alone. She is at Mount Candorana. She is old and blind. There is no one to feed her or to take care of her. She is sure to die. How can I ever touch any food when my mother is such a condition. " The King was deeply touched by the elephant's sentiments towards his old and blind mother. He had never seen such devotion. He at once decided to set the elephant free and said " O great elephant, you are indeed a worthy son. Go back to your mother and look after her. She needs you more than I do. " -------------- 11. ARTICLES FROM SAI DEVOTEES: " Sankaraiah Dubagunta " sainama JAMNER MIRACLE REPEATED Mr SB Deo, a staunch devotee of Baba met with an accident and sustained multiple injuries and fractures at Bhiwandi near Bombay on 31st Dec'1951.He was rushed to the hospital and was discharged on 23/3/1952. During his stay in the hospital he casually asked his friend Shantharam " Bhau! Baba was kind enough in 1902 to send Udhi and Aarthi from Shirdi to Jamner for Sri Nana Saheb Chandorkar at the time of his daughter's delivery. Am I so fortunate that Baba should send me here Udhi and Prasad from Shirdi now in 1952? " On hearing this Shantharam assured that Baba would certainly do as Deo's father and Deo were ardent devotees of Baba. Though it was a casual wish Bhaktha Paradina Sanath heard this. Next day Mr Shankar Rao of Bhiwandi met Deo in the hospital and told he came to deliver Udhi and Prasad which he brought from Shirdi on the previous day. It appears that Shankar Rao had gone to Ahmednagar for his work and returned via Shirdi. While at Shirdi Sri Vittal Rao Marathe, a Samsthan singer enquired whether he knew Deo and was aware of the accident. Sri Rao replied in the affirmative. Then the Samsthan singer gave Udhi, Prasad after ascertaining it would be delivered to Mr Deo. Like this Baba had repeated what He did at the time of Minathai's delivery. We all know Ram Ghir Bhua was given Udhi, Harathi song at Shirdi and Baba in the form of a cart man received Ramghir and took him to Nana Saheb Chandorkar's house in the cart.
