Struggle embraced Becomes surrender. Fear embraced Becomes love. Hopelessness embraced Becomes hope. Ignorance embraced Becomes wisdom For how can one know What is not known Until this is known? An ignorance rights itself In the Christ-Heart-Light... AND In emptiness, no-mind In the unborn unknown Buddha mind... Anna Taking Flight Have you seen where longing lives? I don't know how it happened. I came to a branch in the path And something made me go right instead of left........... I'd never gone that way before. I followed the dappled shadows Because they entranced me. I liked the huge oak trees Because they lent me their strength. The creek was a delight, It babbled on and on.......... But then the path got narrow And steep And brambles scraped my arms As I passed. Why didn't I turn back? I couldn't really say. I was far from home by now Too far to turn back. I didn't want to go home any more I didn't have a home any more. There was nothing for me back there. It meant nothing. Do you understand? .........It was getting dark. And the path was still leading up My legs are sore And I'm bleeding from the brambles. But I keep going because...... I don't know why. Finally, I reached the summit And gasped in horror And fell to my knees. The path led right to the edge Of a cliff...... I stood and watched As the sun slowly set In crimson hues. And shadows flooded the canyon. I spent the long, dark night Sitting on the edge of that cliff. I cried and wailed And cursed God 'Damn you anyway. You destroy my dream home, You send me into the forest, Weary and bloody, you bring me here, Where longing lives.' Very well, have your way Rip out the darkness from my heart What else is there? I've fallen in love, And I can never go home. A sleepless night A doldrums daze Heart ablaze All fear gone Strength from somewhere I rise to my feet Perched on the edge of eternity And as the first ray of dawn Throws my shadow Across the canyon I raise my arms I spread my wings.......... And I fly! Phil
