You feel those sensations because you

believe in a certain image of a Larry, who

should be respected and spared. You can

be hurt by words because you think

abstract words point to real things.

So if I say you are a mediocre poet,

you are insulted because your ego wants

to feel special, and you believe being

average is bad. It's all about what you

believe.
