Guest guest
Some believe that with an 'event' called 'enlightenment', you [and 'brain'] somehow 'lose' the ability to 'feel' pain, suffering, sadness, anger, hate, jealousy, fear or anything that can be considered unpleasant. Some believe that the whole life 'automatically' changes and now all you 'feel' is... pleasure, happiness, ecstasy, orgasm, excitement, laughter, joy, thrill, rush! In this version of the 'belief', the brain selectively but instantaneously loses all the 'abilities' that makes it able to feel 'pain' while it retains [and in fact, amplifies] the abilities to feel all that is Pleasant! .... If you analyze this belief little carefully and dispassionately [devoid of 'wishes' to be it this or that way...] you will find it quite erroneous! In many cases, what is felt as 'good' or 'bad' is done by the same body/brain circuitry and is based on the exactly same *ability*! That which tastes something as sweet and might find it 'pleasurable' in moderate amount... also finds " too much " 'sweet' as quite unpleasant. That which 'listens' to great music and finds it greatly 'pleasing' is also involved in listening to 'noise' and finding it 'disturbing'. Eyes that can see 'light' can also be pained or blinded by " too much " light! That which feels 'good' when touched with a flower petal or silk... also finds a thorn quite hurting. To have 'pleasure feeling' ability and not 'pain feeling' ability is often impossible. [Much of how you feel 'pleasure' is also " how " we feel pain! Not just that, some times, too much 'pleasure' too is felt as 'pain'! ] .... If you carefully examine the lives of many " so called " 'enlightened' 'sages' many of whom seem to have done many things out of 'greed', 'lust', and 'substance abuse' then, too you find this notion of instantaneous 'transformation' just a sham, lie... or, a mere delusion! .... If you examine your own life with some care, courage and dispassion then, too you will find it true! Every night, you go into that 'no man' land in your deep dreamless sleep, yet, in the morning you get up pretty much intact with all abilities [including the ability to feel boredom and pain] Safe! Why do you think samadahi will suddenly 'break' all the body/brain circuitry and make it 'numb' to one kind of feelings? [if you already have had Samadhi you might know... this is not true!] .... As far as this kind " all 'pleasure' only " theory of 'enlightenment' is concerned... Don't believe it! Examine it little bit and you will find it to be untrue! [un-enlightenment... don't believe in that either! ] And, anyone who 'claims' to be 'pleasure only', you know it to be... plain deluded or... a misleading, lying Fake! .... What is... is... already is. You are already... That! And, 'What is' excludes nothing [how could it?]... not even that which you call pain, suffering, disappointment, pleasure, excitement, boredom! When mind is bent totally inwards... you feel neither... no excitement, no boredom... When mind moves outward... you can experience everything again... excitement, passion, boredom, pain, suffering, thrill... That is the nature of the mind. That is the capacity of the mind, ability of the mind. .... Believing that enlightenment means this and that... or, that it includes this and that or it 'excludes' x, y, z... simply prevents you from realizing what already is! 'What is' excludes nothing! .... You can be at Peace... or, you can be at inner war... That is true today even if you have never practiced any sadhna, any meditation... That is true today even if you have practiced many years of sadhna and meditation... That was true yesterday too... before, you started any practice... practice simply develops your strength of mind, focus and concentration and can establish you in the role of the 'master of the mind' rather than the 'slave' of changeful 'states' that many are! The ability of mind still includes all its 'abilities' [unless the brain loses some parts and abilities due to accident, disease or old age]... and, it still has abilities to feel everything that you ever felt including... love, hate, jealousy, pain, suffering, pleasure, excitement, control, adventure, thrill, ecstasy, orgasm, happiness, peace... With practice, you simply develop better control, discretion and stronger concentration to remain in a state [to a large extent] independently of external conditions! It is also the same thing... which complains of the 'bad taste' when those spices are not in good proportion! That which likes the pleasure of soft touch and smooth massage and finds it very 'pleasing' is also the thing which complains when the pressure is " too much " ! The same thing that appreciates the taste of coffee and espresso... also complains of the 'bitterness' when these are " too strong " ! .... Many artists and creative people like poets, painters are knows to be very 'sensitive' and feel both 'pain' and 'pleasure'... depression and elation with greater Intensity! While many serial killers and pathological criminals are known to be 'numb' to both pleasure and pain... depression and elation! <<<<<
