Guest guest
Sleeping is not that much different than wakefulness and dreams are no different than involuntary thoughts. Even a little awareness can show that... As you lie on bed and start relaxing, resting and falling to sleep; suddenly, you see random images from memory coming to life and playing on your mind without any effort on your own. [sometimes, you worry or think about things that you want or need. Those thoughts are different and have slightly different origin.] Sometimes, you lie down, relax but... don't think! In that state, sometimes you feel that can not fall back to sleep. You keep relaxed and resting but you still stay awake and alert. As if the mind needs some cover to switch it gear. Sometimes, you do 'sleep' while not thinking but, you notice that this sleep is different. Your eyes are closed, your body is resting but you are in fact, full awake! You are aware of deep sleep... as you are aware of Samadhi and you are aware of dreams as you are aware of thoughts. When you wake up you feel no transition. When fall back to sleep... you feel no transition either. .... However, even in normal sleep and normal dreams, you notice something quite strange! Something which can reveal a lot about how *consciousness* works! In your dream... " you " see 'yourself' as a character in the dream! You see that character going to London, shopping, meeting friends, seeing snow fall, talking, feeling happy, feeling unhappy, seeing snake, feeling frightened! Amazingly... " you " keep 'seeing' it and you also keep 'dreaming' that the character you yourself are seeing is... " you " ! You see... 'yourself' getting frightened... You see... 'yourself' running, flying... covering great distance... traveling from USA to London and India! Yet, it is you who witnesses it and you see yourself as the witness... remaining completely STILL, unmoved, unattached and unconcerned... No matter how much this character [that you see as 'yourself] moves... it never gets " out of " you and it never even sees an boundary or limitation! Even London and India only appear inside you! .... But, even more amazing is that... if it is " you " who is the STILL, unattached Witness... " who " is that who is getting frightened? Who is experiencing the joy, the pleasure or pain, worry... as you are Clearly the Witness... the 'Dreamer' and not a 'character' in your own Dream! Sometimes, when you wake up after a scary dream... " whose " body is that which is sweating? .... [Amazingly, you even see the character [that you see as 'yourself' in the dream] dying and getting scared and wishing not to dye and... " you " watch it!] .... I am interested in reading your ideas/explanations related to it.
