In the company of those *realized* souls [according to my friend who has met and spent time with Osho, JK and few others], meditation and peace and .... the Silence of mind descends on its own without making any effort on your part! The mediation and peace that takes great effort and sometime log time to achieve seems to occur by itself just by being in such presence! You [in his words] get calm, quiet and you feel all your questions, concerns, comments, your *thinking mind* automatically drop! He called it being *meditated*! And, he says many times after such *meetings*, he would feel so expanded and quiet and he would not talk for hours! He would also have very few thoughts in that period. He is certainly not the only one who has felt it and described this *effect*! I have heard and read account from many others as well as from a friend who came to see a guru with me some time back! .... I too have had many such occurrences in varying degrees. Many times, I have had this in the presence of people who were not even *gurus*. Many times, I have this *effortless* *involuntary* Silence experience in the presence of people who did not even claim to be *spiritual*! And, I do think it is very valuable! When it happens it gives you a *taste* and direct experience of *PEACE* that mere words and *intellectual discussion* can rarely do! .... As for its usefulness... some call it *shaktipat*, some call it... *glimpse* or *satori*! Just by this direct experience of PEACE a *seed* has been planted in you! Your mediation, your practice, your awareness as well as more of these *direct experiences even when they only occur is a *guru* presence can strengthen it! .... According to many accounts, Maharshi spoke very little. Many times, he didn't even answer questions and he rarely engaged in long intellectual or philosophical debates. In the absence of all this, it was mainly the *peace* of his presence that attracted people to him and that made many of them even stay for an extended period of time! If I remember correctly, Maharshi even said the words to the effect that one should use the degree of peace felt in their presence as the one of the criteria of jnani. .... Almost every chapter in the book of collection of Papaji discourses, people say words like... Papaji, I experience such peace in your presence! ....
