Guest guest
S: It surely matters what the mind does, because what it does leads >to a happy or unhappy life. A already thought a few times that this might be your philosophy. But alas, dear Pete, it simply does not work this way. The desire for a happy life leads only to more suffering. You cannnot get only just one side of the coin. P: My poor laboratory rat, you still don't understand this maze you are trapped in. It's not about desires. It's all about right or wrong steps, and consequences. Thoughts, ideas, beliefs, and actions have consequences. Take one step in one direction, and you get cheese; take a step the other way, you get a shock. The maze has no exit! So There is only two possible solutions: Die, or accept electricity or cheese with equal equanimity. )

The mind gets confused and lost. It follows the wind. It thinks it knows itself and puts its trust in its functions. It depends upon itself for a happy existence. The mind defines ideal happiness and then searches for that ideal outside. When it hasn't found it in things, it searches within for it and comes up dry. The search for meaning continues on relentlessly. The mind is constantly on the move and it whimsically changes course in obedience to its own dictates. The mind is its own best friend as well as its own worst enemy. Why give the mind any importance? Why not just let it do what it does and forget about it? I have quit trying to run my mind; now I let it run on its own. I can literally sit back and laugh at its aimless wanderings through the jungle of Consciousness, wether or not it is dreaming. And laughter feels so good! From This perspective, the joke is fantastically hilarious. And detached from it as I am, I can have endless fun and enjoy the moments of happiness it brings to this mind I seem to have here. You're right, it is fun to use this mind assigned to myself by Me.
