It seems to be very cultural. In my country of origin, one uses that word very descriminately, not all the time. My boss today was saying how he loved me to death, just to engender in me a strong emotion, dripping w/ glittery bullshit. I can`t tell you how embarrassed I was. I will never know what Love is. It is not something I will ever be able to appropriate myself, or use, or dispense. I can dispense a certain kindness and help around me, but it isn`t what one can call love. It is more like survival skills. Self-preservation of the specie and myself. Love is a mysterie, its attributes are not at all what one imagine. We will never know love, we can only entirely give ourself up to it and that is the end of the quest. Thank-you for your sensitive and sincere post today. Patricia P: Patricia, You can surly know what love is. It's an emotion produced by the amygdala using a certain hormone, and transmitted by neurotransmitters to the brain cortex. I hate to rain on Ana's love parade (not really) but this have been documented in neurology by clinical cases. There is the case of a young man whose connection between the amygdala and the visual center was severed by an injury suffered in a car accident. After the accident, the young man could not feel love on seeing his parents. They just looked like strangers who resembled his parents. It was only when they spoke to him that he could feel love, and this was because the connection between the auditory center and the amygdala had not been severed. You could read about this case, and many other fascinating cases in world famous Neurologist V. S, Ramachandra book " The Ghost In The Brain. " Well well, Pete, that is an intersting post here. My amygdalas were removed when I was seven, I remember well because it was painful, Yet it seems that I can feel an intense emotion toward family, friends, pets , trees, boats.... Hmmmm! I wonder...
