In you dreams... you see a character that you identify as *me*! But, if you had little awareness [in your dream] and you tried to voice what you see accurately... you might have said: I am witness to a character or, you might say: I see a character... Similarly, when you see that character getting afraid... you would say... I see fear... Just by this simple awareness and the realization of this simple " truth " , you would experience a huge difference! In the first format, in which you *identify* a character that you yourself invent as 'yourself' and what you dream [or see] happening to it as happening to *you*... you get worried, tense, anxious... Afraid! In the second outlook... where you remain as you Are - the Witness of all 'passing' and you see objects as they Are - a thought, a dream, a character, an emotion... passing - you feel Vast Space! You would also notice that the second version is much closer to what is really happening [in dream]... You are the Witness... the characters, pictures, emotions are passing... But, just by your *identification*... you create so much burden, anxiety, tension and fear! .... With little Awareness and little more attention to " truth " ... to " what is really happening " ... your Dreams can change! With little Awareness and little more attention to " truth " ... to " what is really happening " ... your thoughts and Awake Life can change! .... As in dream... So, in wakeful life... almost all your psychological problems including fear, anxiety, depression occur due to *wrong* *identification*! You believe you are " what you think " in your " thoughts " as you in the dreams, you believe you are a character that " you dream " ! If in your dream, anytime you realize you are ONLY the watcher, the witness... not what you are dreaming - the dreams will lose their power on you! If when awake, you realize you are ONLY the watcher, the witness to all thoughts, emotions and feeling... not what you are " thinking " - the thoughts will lose their power on you! And, Relief in both cases will be phenomenal! .... If you then, tried to see and express what you see accurately, it might be something like: I see anger passing. [in place of... I am angry!] If you don't see anger 'passing'... you might simply say I see anger. [in place of... I am angry!] I see sadness... [in place of... I am sad!] I see fear... [in place of... I am afraid!] And, just by this simple *clear* seeing and clear *expression*, you will notice that these emotions and thoughts begin to lose their grip and power! You will feel a Vast Peaceful Space around everything that is passing. You will see there is that pulse of that emotion that I am *Aware Of* and here I am... this Spacious Presence that remains unaffected and unmoved! .... feelings, thoughts just come and pass! .... In place of believing and saying things like: I have desire of x. or, My desire is to get x. You will clearly see and clearly express... I see desire of x! I see fear of y. You won't identify with a character in your " thoughts " as " you " and see everything through that 'imagined' character... When you see everything through that 'dreamt' character in your dream, you experience fear, anxiety which in reality is non-existent. When you see everything through that 'imagined' character in your thoughts, you experience fear, anxiety, tension which in reality is non-existent and which in reality serves NO *useful* function - not even for that 'imagined' character! .... All that is needed is to... Stay TRUE! Remain your Self... Remain what You Are! All you need to remember is: You are... The Witness, the Watcher... the Thinker, the Dreamer... not a 'character' in your own dream, not a character' in your own " thoughts " ! .... Anytime, you find yourself *wrongly* identifying with that character in your thought... pull yourself back and remember... you are the Witness, the watcher... the Thinker and not what you are 'seeing'! You are not that which you 'see passing'... you are the witness who sees them! You are NOT *someone* angry or *afraid*... even when you see anger passing! .... Remember it and remain that Witness... Try it for three days and the relief you will feel is Tremendous!
