It is a mis-taking of > what is. It serves no real value. > > > P: Ha, ha! " I heartily disagree " is illusion, > It is the sense of " I Am " returning. B: You seem to believe that use of the pronoun 'I' is evidence of belief in " I am " . P: No, I think disagreeing HEARTILY could be a momentary flair up of that stance, not as a belief, but as defense mechanism. B: The point of discussion was the utility of the illusory sense of " I am " . You said there is a utility. I said there is not. P: The " I am " is a belief surrounded by very strong satellite feelings. A belief exists as an idea, and as brain transactions regardless whether the object of the belief is real or not. Ghosts may no haunt your house, but if you believe they do, any strange sound or shadow could bring fear because the belief is real. The country was never in danger from Sadam, but people believed that, and so supported the war. So that false belief was useful to Bush, even when the danger didn't exist. In the same way, the I'm is a rallying call when there is a serious threat. And momentarily even the brain of a jnani would feel that sense of " I. " Many people who don't believe in God pray in times of crisis. So beliefs are useful, even when false as a rallying cry, and the " I " is that. All illusions have a substratum of fact. A mirage may not be water, but is an atmospheric phenomenon. B: Can we discuss this in earnest, or do you want to end it with a jest? P: I just did! )
