Yes folks it's here, the first quantum computer

has been created by scientists at the University

of Illinois.

It uses photons and mirrors to calculate, and it

is faster than a speeding bullet. In just minutes

It can solve problems it would take regular

computers years, but this is not what has

important implications for philosophy buffs,

it's the way it's done that it's the kicker.

The same photon in the computer exist in two

different state: in state A it bounced from

a mirror, in state B it did not. And yet both

states, the one that happened, and the one

that didn't are used in the calculations. That

something that didn't happen somehow

influences what does, is philosophically

speaking, mind blowing. Weir, quarky!

You can read all about it on line at:

and search by quantum computer

Definitely an interesting article.

Here's a direct url:

http://www.chicagotribune.com/technology/chi-0602240107feb24,1,4880450.story?col\

l=chi-techtopheds-hed & ctrack=1 & cset=true

Note: if the above url gets broken into two lines you

will have to cut/paste it back together to make it work.
