The saying and your remark both suggest that to look for meaning in life is folly. But is the topic is meaning -- in the sense of profound meaning -- a closed book? Regarding Deep Peace, for example... there is something very meaningful in that, in *some sense* at any rate... but in *what* sense? That is very difficult to answer. It is as if profound meaning is utterly elusive, ineffable. One can't really talk about Deep Peace much beyond merely mentioning it... as if the term is a mere pointer. Similarly with profound meaning. But just because something cannot be *explained* doesn't mean it isn't. Deep Peace surely is. And profound meaning as well. It is just that they can't really be talked about, but only alluded to. Ultimately what is Real does not submit to hard scrutiny. Which is why " hard scrutiny " is not the measure of things. Bill To me, meaning, profound or otherwise, is assigned: We give meaning to our own experiences. Nothing objectively means anything.
