P: LOL, Phil! What other response do you suggest to a math topic?

One full of poetry and emotion? I know in theses spiritual lists

mixing emotion, fantasy, and a dash of scientific knowledge

such as quantum physics, string theories, or hologram metaphors

is considered wise, and very New Age, but it is not an aid to

liberation.

Yup, that's the point. Are you feeling any more liberated after that

discussion? Hehe.

The mind " I " was given? Isn't the " I " a mind product? Given to whom

and by who?

> Throughout all discussion there persists the feeling that at the

root of mathematics there lay a mystery, reaching far deeper than

anything attained through the senses. Sad is the estate of anyone who

has not realized this profound assurance of truth in studying pure

mathematics, and is at a level whereat they hold belief that

mathematics is solely derived from the facts of the external world by

mere abstraction. And further to this, if anyone has not a high

enough degree of contact with Vedantist or Buddhist phases of

oriental thought to be assured of the peculiarly decisive evidence of

transendental thought, than a dry elucidation of the matter is indeed

the only way available for responding to questions regarding the

disciplines. On the other hand, as a factor that can act in a sort of

negative sense, the various philosophies that repudiate the actuality

of any deeper sense in mathematics or transendental/mystical reality

can have the effect of barrenness, which should leave them far from

satisfactory. From my studies of the dialectical and polemic

processes of the various western schools of thought, there is found

an inadequateness for supplying the completely satisfactory solution

that, while affording the appropriate recognition of the needs of

experience and of reason, at the same time leave unsatisfied the

hunger for assurance and depth. As an aid to liberation therefore both

the path of reason and the path of nirvana do comingle in an

astonishingly pleasantly harmonic and poetical way. No need to make

life study a drab affair!.............bn
