There is a funny story of a man who wanted to bury his shadow. He dug a deep pit and, seeing his shadow at the bottom, was glad he could bury it so deep. He went on filling the pit and when he had completely filled it up he was surprised and disappointed to find the shadow on top. P: Oh, oh! :::: waving hand ::::: I know why that is. See, what he's not noticing is that, as he throws dirt in the whole and turns around to get another shovel full, the shadow climbs up on top of the dirt pile! He has to shovel faster! But seriously, folks, since ego isn't a real thang, it requires continuous reinforcement just to maintain it's seeming reality. The most destructive parts of ego can't even be allowed to reach the conscious level or it will self destruct, which of course is the key. ::::: Rubbing hands together devilishly ::::: Nobody here's new at the ego game, but just to articulate; the shadow of negative ego can withstand anything but the light of day. Nothing at all needs to be done with it, and illusions can never be killed, but these are the bloodsucking vampires that dissolve in the light of truth. Phil .... The ego is like one's shadow thrown on the ground. If one attempts to bury it, it will be foolish. The Self is only one. If limited it is the ego. If unlimited it is Infinite and is the Reality. The bubbles are different from one another and numerous, but the ocean is only one. Similarly the egos are many, whereas the Self is one and only one. <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< When told that you are not the ego, realize the Reality. Why do you still identify yourself with the ego? It is like saying, " Don't think of the monkey while taking medicine " - it is impossible. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> ~ Ramana Maharshi
