The patients are mentally ill while the staff are crazy!

< As I said I work with mentally ill adults.

< It takes a special kind of person to work with

< these people. A very " straight " person couldn't

< do it. Which is one reason I *can* do it, because

< not only do I fit the not-straight qualification

< (I have LOTS of curliques) but I can tolerate the

< people I work with because, as I observed shortly

< after I started: " The clients are mentally ill,

< while the staff are just plain crazy! "

How easy it is for me to identify with that. I worked for many years as

a Recreational Therapist and Counselor in a Substance Abuse/Alcoholism

Treatment Center and then for a couple of years in a Psychiatric Unit. I

often told friends of mine the exact same thing. Pretty much what you

saw with patients is what you got (e.g., schizophrenia,

manic/depressive, suicidal, etc) but with the staff, not so most of the

time (e.g., conniving, lies, deceipt, manipulation of date, drugging

patients so they (the staff) would not be disturbed, etc). Yikes!

Michael....re: " drugging the patients.. " where is this Unit? How

does one become a patient there? I promise not to disturb the staff

and believe you me I think I could qualify for residency..LOL

Fortunately where I work the staff aren't like

that. For the most part they really are quite

decent. Some are more caring than others. Some

just do their job, while others reach out.

But I really don't observe abuse, I'm happy

to say.

We run into it in this room once and awhile Bill...not to mention

any names.....;-)
